IMCA Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks will take green in
golden season at 141 Speedway
FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (March 5) – Two IMCA divisions familiar to Green Bay
area dirt track race fans will join Saturday programs at paved
141 Speedway.
The Francis Creek venue adds the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and IMCA
Sunoco Hobby Stock classes. Opening night for the 50th anniversary season at
the ¼-mile asphalt oval is May 16.
Ten point races for the SportMods are scheduled through Aug. 8, with rain
dates on the calendar Aug. 15 and 22. Final night for Hobby Stock points is
Sept. 5.
“We’re looking forward to good car counts and good shows in each of the IMCA
classes,” owner Bruce Conard said. “The Hobby Stocks raced here once last
year and there are already a lot of SportMod drivers who live within an hour
of the track. I think it’s going to be a good deal. We’re excited to have
both classes here.”
Top three drivers in Northern SportMod point standings competing with crate
motors will receive shares of a bonus fund from Gandrud Chevrolet of Green
Bay. Hobby Stock points earned at 141 will figure toward Jet Racing Northern
Region standings.
An informational meeting for drivers in the two divisions starts at 2 p.m.
Sunday, March 22 at the 141 Bar.
Constructed as a ¼-mile dirt oval in 1959, 141 was paved the following
season. IMCA Modifieds ran there in 1986.
Conard is part of a partnership that purchased the facility two years ago
and made improvements. Plans for 2010 include converting the existing racing
surface to a 1/3-mile high banked oval.
The only other paved track running the IMCA Northern SportMods and the
Hobbies is Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
