Smith win is good for a grand in American Stock Car Series opener

ALTA, Iowa (June 30) – A green to checkered run at the front Tuesday night at Buena Vista Raceway put $1,000 in David Smith’s pocket.

Smith started on the pole and led all 30 laps of the IMCA American Stock Car Series feature, the headline race of the Kyle Suter Memorial program at Alta.

The win came two car lengths ahead of Brian Blessington, who made his charge toward the front after pacing his “B” race and starting 20th in the field of 24. Jeff Joldersma, Dustin Smith and Chris Ullrich completed the top five.

David Smith was safely ahead of the pack when cautions came out for multi-car tangles on the ninth and 24th circuits.

Third-running Jeff Wollam exited after being involved in the first incident. Joldersma got settled into second and Blessington, last season’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout champion, cracked the top five on just the 10th lap. He’d catch Ullrich and Dustin Smith, then slipped past Joldersma on the final circuit.

Jesse Colwell was sixth and Larry Karcz Jr., another qualifier from the “B” races, improved 16 spots for seventh.

Round two of the American Stock Car Series is Wednesday at Independence Motor Speedway, which also hosts the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

The Stock Car feature at Indee also pays $1,000 to win. First place pays $1,250 when the series concludes Thursday at Marshalltown Speedway.

Drivers who compete at all three series events are eligible for shares of a $1,500 point fund. The top driver in points becomes eligible to qualify for the Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions this September during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.

Also winning Suter Memorial features were Nick Deal in the IMCA Modifieds, Chad Dills in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Andy Boeckman in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and John Sedlachek in the

Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
