KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 28) – With a list of high profile feature wins out of state and north of the border to his recent credit, Jay Noteboom reminded his IMCA Modified foes that he’s a force to be reckoned with when the green flag flies close to home, too. Noteboom led the last 19 laps in winning Tuesday night’s Harris Clash special at Knoxville Raceway. The victory paid $2,000 and came five car lengths ahead of Nate Caruth, who worked his way up from the 15th starting spot. Jeremy Mills led four early circuits and ran side-by-side with Noteboom twice around the half-mile dirt oval before ending the 25- lapper in third. Michael Long and Todd Shute completed the top five. Making his move from the fourth starting spot, Noteboom was at the front of the 28-car pack when the first lap was scored. The only cautions of the contest came on lap two. Racing came to a halt after the second caution, for a pair of multi-car pileups. Noteboom had a short stay at the front before Mills sped by on the higher line. The two went back and forth before Noteboom took the lead for good on lap seven, then started to stretch his advantage to as much as 10 car lengths. Caruth caught Mills for second on lap 18, as Noteboom was catching up with the back of the field. The young speedster cut into Noteboom’s sizable lead, but ran out of laps to challenge before the checkers came out. Noteboom had won three events in North Dakota and Saskatchewan enroute to topping point standings for the Big Dog Dakota Classic Tour, then followed with the checkers in the postponed feature and overall co-championship honors at the Sandhill Shootout at Nebraska’s Lincoln County Raceway. “I’ve never had much luck here,” he said after winning his fifth 2010 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. “This is awesome.” Seventy-eight drivers competed in the 18th annual event, rescheduled after being rained out July 7 and again July 9.
