Deery Series gets back on dirt with Des Moines, Marshalltown events

DES MOINES, Iowa (August 15) – With the annual outing on asphalt in the record book, the Deery Brothers Summer Series returns to dirt with a midweek doubleheader at two frequent tour venues.

The Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway hosts the Tuesday, Aug. 18 state fair program. IMCA Late Models are at Marshalltown Speedway for the Wednesday, Aug. 19 bookend event in that twinbill.

Both feature races pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start.

Five time series champion and current point leader Jeff Aikey of Waterloo has won four of the 17 Deery events held at Des Moines.
Darrel DeFrance of Marshalltown has won three times at Des Moines while ex tending his perfect tour attendance streak to 346 races.

Independence’s Curt Martin took home the hardware from five of the 18 series races at Marshalltown. Aikey and Terry Neal of Ely are both two-time winners there.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. at Des Moines. Hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows. Also on the State Fair card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. More information is available from promoter Mick Trier at 515 201-5526.

Marshalltown opens the pits at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand at 5 p.m.
Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. and rac ing begins at 7 p.m. Northern SportMods also run Wednesday. Information about that program is available from promoter Toby Kruse at 515 432-4703.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $5 for children both nights. Pit passes for all series events are $25.

No one under the age of 18 will be allowed in the pit area at Des Moines without presenting a minor release waiver signed by at least one parent or guardian. That waiver can be downloaded from the ww.jjamracing.net website.

Minors 14 and under will be admitted to the pits at Marshalltown with the waiver signature of a parent or legal guardian.

Aikey won the most recent Deery show, on the asphalt at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids Aug. 5.

The 17th of 21 series dates this season will be Aug. 25 at Cresco Speedway. Completing the 2009 schedule are races Sept. 5 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Sept. 6 at Quincy, Ill., Raceway and Sept. 7 at Boone Speedway on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals. The $10,000 to win Pepsi USA Nationals series finale at 34 Raceway in West Burlington is Sept. 18-19.
