Hancock Co. Speedway has new race night, new promoter, two
new sanctions for 2010
BRITT, Iowa (Nov. 21) – A new promoter will oversee races on a new night
next season at Hancock County Speedway.
Joe Ringsdorf takes the helm for a dozen Thursday shows. Opening night at
the 4/10-mile dirt oval is scheduled for May 20, with the final point races
on Aug. 26.
IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and newly-sanctioned Karl Chevrolet Northern
SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are on all 12 programs. IMCA
Modifieds have five dates at Britt.
“Moving the race night from Friday to Thursday nights gives drivers another
track to compete at for points,” said Ringsdorf, who will continue promoting
the Algona, Mason City and Fairmont, Minn., tracks. “Another plus is that it
allows drivers and fans to get in a night at the races and still have time
for other weekend activities, like camping or traveling.”
The Stock Car Shootout at Britt will be June 3. The Northern SportMod
special, sanctioned for the first time, will be held July 1 and the 16th
annual Studer Farms sponsored Night of 1,000 Stars event for Modifieds will
be Aug. 12.
“Hancock County has always had outstanding specials,” said Ringsdorf.
“John (Pletcher) and Darlene (Weber) were good IMCA supporters and did some
nice things as promoters here.”
Fair Board President Randy Hiscocks said weather would dictate when planned
improvements to the facility could begin.
“We’re looking at putting in more lighting along the front stretch and
giving the grandstands a facelift,” said Hiscocks, a member of the
construction committee when the track was built in 1995. “Because of the
weather this fall, we’ve basically been six weeks behind from the get-go.
We’ll get started as soon as we can.”
