VINTON, Iowa (Jan. 22) – As many as 48 bonus points will be awarded this season, to track and special series champions in five IMCA divisions. A maximum of 24 bonus points, again determined by average weekly car counts, will be given for each of as many as two local track titles or for one track and one special series crown. The additional points will be added to national and regional Modified, Stock Car and Hobby Stock standings, and to national standings for both SportMod classes. Tracks must hold at least eight point races for the full bonus to be given. “Our objective as a nationwide sanctioning body is to take approximately 130 tracks and incorporate a point system that best meets the needs of drivers, while keeping in mind the limits to how often they can race,” said IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “We do not want to favor one track, state or region. I believe this structure is the most fair we’ve incorporated over the years.” Drivers who win three or more track titles will receive bonus points determined by the two tracks with the highest car count averages. No bonus will be given for any special series scheduled to conclude after the end of the 2010 regular point season. Late Model and Sport Compact track champions will also receive a maximum of 24 bonus points for a single local track title. A minimum of four races must be held in each of the seven classes to crown a track champion. Bonuses will be pro-rated for tracks holding between four and seven events. Bonus points were limited to 60 and could be derived from any number of track championships last year. Special series bonus points were set at 20. “While our point system continues to be the best in the business, there is always fine turning to be done,” Root said. “This system continues to make it possible for more drivers to win regional or national crowns.”
