NORTH
PLATTE, Neb. (Feb. 28) – The numbers added up for Lincoln County Raceway to
run IMCA sanctioned Karl Chevrolet
Northern SportMods beginning this season. The first Saturday night
show at North Platte is May 1. The division also joins Friday programs at
McCook Speedway and Sunday cards at Dawson County Raceway in Lexington. “A number of drivers have
talked about getting into this class, either moving up from another division
or down from a Modified because it was more affordable for them,” promoter
Ed Milne said. “We’re within a radius of about 60 miles of McCook and
Lexington and all three tracks try to work together.” “With all three tracks
sanctioning the class, it gives drivers chasing national and rookie of the
year points more nights to race,” he added. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA
Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks return to weekly programs at all
three venues. The three tracks also
combine resources to stage Burger King-sponsored 9-for-9 Challenge, with
more than $2,500 in bonuses to be paid out this season to registered
Modified drivers. Registration fee is $25
and drivers must compete in at least eight of the nine designated races,
three each at McCook, North Platte and Lexington, to be eligible. The
9-for-9 bonuses are paid out for a different division every year. Lincoln County is part of
IMCA’s ButlerBuilt Central Region for Modifieds and Probe Industries
Northern Regions for Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. Point races at North
Platte continue through Aug. 21. The 9-on-9 Challenge finale is also on the
championship night show.
