WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa
(March 29) – Opening night for the Deery Brothers Summer Series will give
Jason Frankel the opportunity to continue his IMCA Late Model tour winning
streak at West Burlington. Night two will give the
2009 series runner-up the opportunity to show off for his hometown fans at
Quincy, Ill., Raceway. The 24th annual
tour sees its first green flag of the season on Saturday, April 10 when 34
Raceway hosts the $3,000 to win, $500 to start Slocum 50. The second half of
the weekend doubleheader is Sunday, April 11 at Quincy for a $2,000 to win
feature. Frankel started and ended
the 2009 series with wins at 34, topping both the Slocum 50 and the Pepsi
USA Nationals in September, a victory that paid $10,000. Pit gates at West
Burlington open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps
follow the 6:20 p.m. drivers’ meeting and racing starts at 7 p.m. IMCA Modifieds race for
national, ButlerBuilt North Central Region and Allstar Performance state
points. Local hobby stocks are also on the 34 card. Grandstand admission is
$15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students Gates to the pit area at
Quincy open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. The drivers’
meeting is at 4:45 p.m., with hot laps to follow and racing set for 5:30
p.m. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars
will vie for all applicable points that evening. Local modified and hobby
stock divisions also see action. Admission to the
grandstand is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students ages
11-16. Pit passes each night are
$25. Kids 10 and under get in free to both shows. Three-time series champion
Mark Burgtorf and Denny Woodworth were Deery winners at Quincy last season. Jeff Aikey is the six-time
and defending series champion. Sixteen events are on the Deery schedule this
season. The series returns to
familiar venues Davenport Speedway on Friday, April 16 and to Jackson County
Speedway in Maquoketa on Saturday, April 17 before making its first ever
visit to the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway on Sunday, April 18.
