MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May
11) – The sixth stop of the season takes the Deery Brothers Summer Series to
Marshalltown Speedway and the Miller Lite 50 show next Tuesday, May 18. The IMCA Late Model tour
event pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start. Karl Chevrolet
Northern SportMods will vie for $400 to win along with national and Allstar
Performance state points. Karl Chevrolet dirt trucks and mod-lites complete
the race program. No entry fee will be
charged to SportMod, dirt truck or mod-lite drivers. Pit gates at Marshalltown
open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:15
p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is
$12 for adults and $2 for kids 11 and under. Pit passes are $25. Three-time series king
Mark Burgtorf has won three of the first five tour events this spring, but
trails Ray Guss Jr. by four points heading to Marshalltown. Hometown hero
Darrel DeFrance, Tom Goble and six-time and defending series champion Jeff
Aikey round out the top five in the standings. Both Guss and Aikey own a
pair of trophies from tour events at Marshalltown. Curt Martin has had the
most success there, however, with five career checkers to his credit. Next up on the Deery
schedule following the Marshalltown show will be the traditional Memorial
Day event at Boone Speedway. Northern SportMods, IMCA
Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, plus the local dwarf car
class, complete the Monday, May 31 program. All applicable IMCA points will
be given in the SportMod, Stock and Hobby divisions.
