Dawson County becomes Sunday home for Mach-1 Sport Compacts in Nebraska LEXINGTON, Neb. (Jan. 23) – Sunday night shows at Dawson County Raceway will feature IMCA Mach-1 Sport Compacts this season. Opening night is May 6 with point races scheduled through Aug. 19. The 4-cylinder class joins IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. “We ran the Sport Compacts non-sanctioned one night last year and we’ve had some guys ask about getting an inexpensive entry-level class started this year,” reported promoter Allen Wissmann. “I’ve also had calls from drivers who said they’d come here and race for national points.” Wissmann anticipates sharing Sport Compact drivers with another newly-sanctioned venue, Lincoln County Raceway at North Platte, an hour to the west and north off Interstate 80. Travelers were particularly successful at Dawson County in 2011, as three of the four IMCA track champions towed two hours or more to get to Lexington. Modifieds running at Dawson County will be part of IMCA’s Central Region. Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks are in respective Probe Industries Northern Regions. Points earned in all five divisions count toward IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national championship standings.
