IMCA clarifies two scoring issues for 2012
VINTON, Iowa (January 25, 2012) - Two procedural clarifications
should be noted by IMCA drivers and local track scorekeepers for
2012.
No show-up points are given for any event in any division.
Drivers must compete in a qualifying heat or feature to receive a
minimum 11 points. And in the event of a track running make-up
features, a driver who competes in the first but cannot in the
second due to mechanical issues will get last place points in either
the main or the ‘B’ feature of that second event.
“Last season, some drivers thought they had to start the feature
to get points. That is not the case,” IMCA Vice President of
Operations Brett Root explained. “In the case of make-up features,
giving no points would have taken a driver’s claim eligibility away.
This is a potential situation where we believe they deserve some
leniency.”
No changes were made in bonus point procedures.
Average car counts will again be used in adding up to 20 bonus
points for single track championships in the Late Model and Sprint
Car divisions.
A maximum of 40 bonus points from as many as two
track titles, or one track title and a special series championship,
will be given in the Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock, Karl
Chevrolet Northern SportMod, Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern
SportMod and Mach-1 Sport Compact classes.
The Late Model point season is from April 27 through Aug. 26.
Weekly points for all other divisions are from Jan. 1 through Sept.
30.
No Modified, Stock Car, Hobby Stock or Northern
SportMod points will be awarded during the IMCA Speedway Motors
Super Nationals fueled by Cenex Sept. 3-9.
Engine claim guidelines also remain unchanged this season.
All 2012 procedures are posted on the
www.imca.com website and will be
included in decal packets mailed beginning in March.
