HARLAN, Iowa (February 13, 2012) - Mike Nichols hopes to
give more than he receives at this November’s IMCA national awards banquet. While chasing a career fifth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car
national championship, Nichols will raise funds for research to find a cure
for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s
Disease. Nichols older brother Steve was diagnosed with ALS last
year. The disease gradually affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal
cord, leading to paralysis and death. “Our goals for 2012 are set high as we look for our fifth
national championship and hope to raise a minimum of $20,000 to be presented
at the IMCA banquet on Nov. 24 in Lincoln, Neb.,” said Nichols. “Initially,
we want to raise approximately $6,000 through the sale of advertising space
on T-shirts. Logo placement packages, along with a special mention on my
website, can be purchased for $100 to $1,000.” “After the shirts are printed, they
can be purchased for $20 each,” he continued. “They will be available at the
race track or can be purchased through our website (www.mikenicholsracing.com)
.” Shirts will be designed and printed by Sybesma Graphics.
Logo placement should be paid for by March 1. Questions about the season-long fundraiser can be directed
to Nichols at 712 579-9363. IMCA’s national champion in 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2010,
Nichols also became the all-time wins leader in the Stock Car division last
season. He owns 247 weekly feature wins over the course of his sanctioned
career.
