Dubuque adds four more IMCA divisions to Sunday programs

DUBUQUE, Iowa (March 1) – Four more IMCA divisions will take to the track Sunday evenings this season at Dubuque Speedway.

Opening night action on April 22 brings IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts to the 3/8-mile dirt oval. IMCA Late Models also return to Dubuque for their first point race of 2012 on April 29.

“We applied for the sanction last year and ran a rules package similar to IMCA’s for these four classes,” said Keith Simmons, who promotes Farley Speedway and West Liberty Raceway as well as Dubuque. “If weekly racing is going to survive, we all need to get on the same page with the rules.”

“The new sanctions at Dubuque give the potential for drivers chasing national points to race another night instead of sitting at home Sunday nights,” he added. “And there are very few nights we’re done after 9:30 because we know everybody has to be at work on Monday morning.”

IMCA’s Late Model point season ends on Aug. 26. Season championship night for the other four sanctioned divisions at Dubuque is Sept. 2.

Points earned in all five classes figure toward IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national standings. Modifieds are in IMCA’s North Central Region and Hobby Stocks are in the Northern Region.

Sanctioned Modifieds ran at Dubuque for a single season in 1986. IMCA Late Models joined weekly programs starting in 2008.
