Ken Schrader joins IMCA Modified field for five Frostbusters

VINTON, Iowa (March 20) – NASCAR icon Ken Schrader joins IMCA Modified stars at Frostbuster specials at five Iowa tracks in early April.

The popular Schrader will race April 4 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, April 5 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway in Des Moines, April 6 at Marshalltown Speedway, April 7 at Boone Speedway and April 8 at Benton County Speedway in Vinton.

“I’m really looking forward to the Frostbusters. I don’t race a lot of IMCA but I always enjoy it when I do,” said Schrader, following his Sprint Cup start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “We were working on our schedule, saw these five races, called Toby (Marshalltown promoter Kruse) and here we are.”

While he’s known for his skill in racing anything with wheels, Schrader has a special affection for the open wheeled class.

“I like the IMCA Modified. The rules take tires out of the equation and the engines have plenty of power, but they’re affordable,” he said. “These cars are just fun to drive.”

Schrader took the green flag at four IMCA events last season, starting with opening night of the Mid-America Modified Championships at Batesville Motor Speedway.

He was third in the Harris Clash at Knoxville Raceway, then joined the Dakota Track Side Classic Modified Tour at Estevan Motor Speedway and the JR Motorsports Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Hancock County Speedway during a two-week swing to dirt tracks around the Midwest.

Schrader owns four IMCA wins in his career, two in a Modified and two in the Deery Brothers Summer Series for Late Models.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are also on each of the five Frostbuster programs. Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the card at Vinton.
