In the first heat race, Don Klein took the win followed by John Paule, Jim Gibson, Dave Eaves, Brian Wolfmeier, Dan Dondero and Chris Winters. The second heat went to Aaron Kleine with Vince Grondzki, Ed Dixon, Bob Geashel, Mike Schulte and Bob Brown trailing. The third heat saw Brett Kreke take the victory while Mark Voigt, Kenny Rumble, Mike Hammerle, Dan Jacober and Rick Salter followed. The first yellow came out on lap 11 when Eaves spun in turn three. Eaves parked his car after this. The running order was Kreke, Grondzki, Klein, Voigt, and Rumble in the top five.
With the race resuming, Kreke jumped out to a nice lead leaving the battle for second up for grabs. The remaining four cars battled for that position. Grondzki held on to second with Klein and Voigt fighting for that place. On the move was ninth starting Rumble to enter the top five and moving forward.
The next caution came on lap 13 for spinning Dondero in turn three. Kreke still had the lead with Grondzki, Klein, Voigt and Rumble in the top five.
With the green back out, Kreke pulled away again and left the field to battle for position. Klein moved into second during this run with Rumble getting by Voigt using the bottom of the track. However only one full lap got into the book before the next caution came out for Schulte and Winters in turns one and two. Now the running order was Kreke, Klein, Grondzki, Rumble and Voigt.
The green reappeared with Kreke pulling away and the battle behind him going on again. The move during this green flag period was by Rumble as he moved around Grondzki and then took Klein for second on the bottom.
The final caution came out on the front straight on lap 18 as Grondzki was running in the top five and using the top of the track for his groove, his car started to spin and as he start to block the track, Kleine came by and hit Grondzki on the driver side. Grondzki was done for the night after a good run. The running order now was Kreke, Rumble, Klein, Voigt and Dixon in the top five.
With seven laps to go, the green flag was back out and as he had done on each restart, Kreke was off and left everyone to battle for position. Over the last laps, Kreke ran a smooth race to take the checkered flag for his first win of 2006. Rumble finished second for his best finish ever at Belle Clair followed by Klein, the ageless one, Voigt and Dixon completing the top five.

Ratajczyk went to the top as did most of the other cars. On lap 7, Smith Jr. slowed on the track with problem to bring out the only caution. The top five were Ratajczyk, Downing, Bittle, Carson and Reinneck.
With the green back out, Ratajczyk assumed command of the race. Downing was trying to put pressure on Ratajczyk, but that was just good racing. With most of the cars on the top, the cushion was getting moved closer to the wall. The car on the move was 14th starting Chris Smith. Smith move forward on the using the bottom and top.
As the laps clicked of, it appeared that Ratajczyk would win his first feature of the year. However, Ratajczyk slowed on lap 16 with a broken axle and pulled off the track giving Downing the lead. engine and went on to win the feature with Bauman in second followed by Cummins,
