Guss Wins Quad City Modified Special

EAST MOLINE ,Ill (April 23, 2006) - Pole sitter, Marty Thompson grabbed the
early lead of the twenty-five lap Open Wheel Modified feature Sunday at Quad
City Speedway, but wasn't able to hold it long as Ray Guss Jr. moved out front
on a fourth lap restart. Jim Willert moved into second on lap ten and started
putting some pressure on Guss, as Guss ran high and Willert ran low. Willert
actually got his nose out front to lead lap twelve, but Guss came right back on
lap thirteen. Guss led the rest of athe way to claim the victory. Willert held
on for second with thiard heat winner, Doug Crampton third, Jerry Durbin fourth
and Thompson fifth. The other two heat wins went to Thad Wilson and Jeff Morris.
Street Stock first heat winner, Rob Henry led athe first lap of athe feataure
with Korey Peterson taking over on lap two. An eighth lap restart saw Buck
Harmening take over the point. Harmening held on to go the rest of the way for
the win. Henry was second with Arthur Carle third, Rick Schraner fourth and
Gerald Ward fifth. Dustin Spicer won the othear heat but suffered Mechanical
problems in the feature.
On the drop of the green flag Jim Sandusky took the lead of the Late Model
feature, but Mechanical problems brought him to halt on lap three. On the
restart Ron Gustaf took over the point with second heat winner, Rob Toland
taking over on lap seven. Toland went on for the win with Kevin Blum second and
Mike Murphy Jr. third. Doing double duty Ray Guss Jr. won the first heat and
took fourth in the feature with Gustaf holding on for fifth.
