Rob Henry Picks Good Night to Revisit Victory Lane
by Ed Potter
EAST MOLINE, ILL. (Aug 6, 2006) - After some really heavy thunderstorms Sunday
morning the Quad City Speedway got thier entire program in Sunday evening. The
track was in good shape with only some standing water in theinfield, which
everyone stayed out of. It was also a good night to be running in the J&J Camper
Street Stock division as a race fan added to the purse. Mr Norm Elliott who says
he has been chasing races since 1951 added to the purse so it would pay five
hundred dollars to win. Scenic Stage Lines of Morrison, IL also added another
two hundred dollars to be divided between the next four positioins at the
finish. Pole sitter, Toby Spicer grabbed the early lead and held it until an
eighth lap caution flew. On the restart Spicer went back to the front but with
fourteenth place starter, Rob Henry and twelth place starter, Donovan Lodge hot
on his tail. One lap later Henry went to the front and held on until the
checkers flew. It was Henry's third win of the season. Lodge was second as
Spicer held on for third. Dave Wadsager ran fourth with Randy Exline taking
fifth. Exline, Chris Hambright and Buck Harmening took the heat wins.
Nathan Hall used his pole starting spot to take the lead of the Best
Choice-Racer's Edge B Modified feature with Doug Curless taking over on lap
three. Curless held on until the races third and last caution flew at lap ten.
On the restart Jake Waterman charged to the front and on for his fourth win of
the year. On the white flag lap Mitch Morris moved by Curless to take second.
Curless held on for third with Brad Pershy fourth and Kevin Dickey fifth. After
a couple of weeks off not bad finishes for Waterman and Dickey. Craig Crawford
and Pershy won the heats.
IITI-Reynold's Ford A Modified pole sitter Shaune Lewis took the early lead of
the feature, but a second lap restart cost him the point. On the restart Donovan
Lodge charged to the front pulling third heat winner, Thad Wilson with him.
These two put on a battle running side by side for the next eleven laps. Wilson
took over the lead on lap thirteen when the caution flew for Lodge as his car
developed problems. But that was the only lap Wilson led as he brought out the
caution on the restart. A double file restart saw Jeff Morris and second heat
winner, Doug Crampton on the front row. Morris took the lead and went on for his
sixth win of the season. Crampton held on for second with Mike Zemo Jr third.
After being involved in the second lap restart Jim Willert came back through the
pack to take fourth with first het winner, Troy Emerick fifth.
IMCA Late Model second heat winner and pole sitter, Mark Preston grabbed the
early lead of the feature and held on despite four cautions, three of which were
for debris, in the first seven laps. Sixth place starter Hershel Roberts took
over the point at lap ten and was soon holding off the challenges of point
leader Eric Gustaf. Three more cautons flew, two for debris, as Roberts held off
Gustaf. As the two battled through the last lap Gustaf took the win by a fenders
length at the wire. It was Gustaf's fourth win of the year. Roberts was a strong
second with Rick Wages third. Preston held on for fourth as Fred Remley rounded
out the top five. Ron Gustaf and Bob Miller won the other two heat races.
