MACON SPEEDWAY OPENER ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

MACON, IL (April 21) - Mother Nature finally smiled on Macon Speedway Saturday night. Fans and racers smiled, too, as 130 cars played to a packed grandstand for the first racing action of the 2007 season. The Easter Bunny made a visit to greet kids at the gate with eggs containing prizes and candy. Six bicycles were presented to lucky winners in three age divisions. 2007 racing action started with the Sportsman heats. 27 Greg Kimmons bested 9 Mike Pickering for the first Macon Speedway win of the season.

From turn four of the green flag lap in the Sportsman Feature, pole-sitter 18 Shane Tomlin had the race won. The defending Sportsman Track Champion was able to maneuver through lap traffic and get to the finish line unscathed for the first Macon Speedway feature win of 2007.

The BARBECK Communications Modified feature got off to a rough start when after the green flag waved, front-row outside 10 Curt Rhoades spun around and nearly took half of the field with him. Rhoades was able to avoid the accident he caused but other drivers like 35 Clark Robertson and 37 Dave Crawley, Jr. weren't as lucky. A second start yielded the same result but this time out of the fourth turn coming to the first lap, Rhoades again lost control of the car and spun around, only to take 50 Jeff Ray and 90 Roger Ater with him. When the dust finally cleared, WFO Kyle Logue (the pole-sitter) had won the first BARBECK Communications Modified feature for 2007.

In the very next race, 1 Kyle Logue was in a very familiar spot. Logue had the pole for the Late Model main event. In a race that did not feature the same drama as the BARBECK Communications Modified main, Logue was able to end up in victory lane with his second feature win of the night, making Macon Speedway history. On July 8, 2006, Logue entered the record books as being only the second-ever driver to win both the Late Models and Modified features on the same night. The first driver to double up was Marty Hiser. Logue is the only driver in Macon Speedway history to win both Late Models and Modified features on the same night twice.

Starting in the second row outside, heat one winner 22 Steve Ewing had the difficult task of working past V8 Jim Farley and heat three winner 11 Terry Reed to get to the lead, but he did it. Ewing picked up his first Street Stock feature win at Macon Speedway since 2005 and with several former Track Champions on his tail including multi-time Track Champion 99 Mike Pickering in second and fourth-place finisher, defending Track Champion X7 Larry Russell, Jr.

The demolition derby field was set when the Hornet feature took the track. 28 cars lined up on the track with only 10 laps to get to the front. Starting third row-outside was defending Track Champion 22nd Joe Reed and through some heavy traffic, he was able to get the first Hornet feature win of 2007.
Macon Speedway is back in action on Saturday, April 28 featuring Driver/Sponsor Appreciation night and a special time for Fan Photos and Autographs. Gates open at 5:00 PM and racing starts at 7:00.
