Macon Speedway-Cinco de Mayo Celebration plus Kenny’s Crazy
Car Caper
by: Tonya Moschell
MACON, IL (May 5) - Weather was questionable throughout much of Central Illinois
for any outdoor activities, but the skies opened up and the sun shined on Macon
Speedway. With the knowledge that the 1/5th mile track was open for business,
125 cars and a full house of race fans showed up at Macon Speedway for an
incredible night of racing.
The second Street Stock heat provided some really fun moments for the fans as
the “Lightning McQueen” replica from the PIXAR movie “CARS” was put to the test
when driver Steve Ewing of Decatur made the pass for first on lap five. Ewing,
no stranger to victory lane, once again carried the checkered flag.
15 laps of excitement is what the Sportsman Feature was all about. This race was
handled by “Pee Wee”, Dave Smith, from start to finish scoring his first feature
win of 2007. In three weeks, the Sportsman feature has been won by three
different drivers.
Decatur’s Kyle Logue has been an unstoppable force in the BARBECK Communications
Modified division. On Cinco de Mayo, it was no different. For the third straight
week, Logue finished ahead of the field and continues to stretch out his BARBECK
Communications Modified point standings lead.
A top of the line Street Stock feature entertained the fans as Mike Pickering
made it two-in-a-row.
Starting defending track champion Kyle Logue on the front row has been a bad
sign for his competitors as Logue has taken the first two Late Model features at
Macon Speedway. Logue continued to stay on a roll once again winning the Late
Model feature. The win gives him three feature wins in both the Late Models and
the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Three of the top ten finishers in the Late
Model division were running C.A.R.S. Crate Late Models.
For the second time in three weeks, defending track champion Joe Reed was
victorious in the Hornets. Starting on the pole and weaving his way in and out
of traffic, Reed was able to overcome the tough competition and claim the
checkered flag.
Macon Speedway stock car racing returns next Saturday night, May 12, with
Meridian School Night and the pre-Mother’s Day Crazy Chicks in Cars promotion.
NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and local Promoter Bob
Sargent purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007.
Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the
$100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is
located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews
Street, then south on Wiles. For information, call 217-764-3000 (track),
