by: Tonya Moschell
MACON, IL (May 9) - While the new owners of Macon Speedway are NASCAR Stars,
they have not forgotten the “grassroots racing” that is the foundation for much
of the higher profile racing in the US today. Macon Speedway is pleased to
announce the “Fast Five” Racer Appreciation Series – A NASCAR Tribute to
Grassroots Racing. This special five race series will feature each of the
classes racing weekly at Macon Speedway. Each night features a different
division with enlarged purses, racing product prizes and for the finale --- one
of the five winners will be drawn for a Cruise for Two.
Macon Speedway’s “Fast Five” Series starts on May 19 with Late Model Bonus
Night. UMP Late Models and C.A.R.S Crate Late Models will be racing for $1500 to
win. A Sportsman Springfield Qualifier on May 26 is the second leg of the
series. UMP Sportsman cars will be racing for $500 to win and a guaranteed
starting position on August 19 at the Springfield Mile. Barbeck Communications
Night on June 2 will feature the Barbeck Communications Modifieds Bonanza with a
$1500 top prize for the winner. The Street Stock Saturday Night Special on June
16 will have UMP Street Stocks facing off for a $500 top prize. The “Fast Five”
Racer Appreciation Series finale is scheduled for Saturday, July 21 featuring
the Illinois State Hornet Championship. $500 will go to the winner in the
4-cylinder Hornet division.
“I think grassroots racing is great for both the fans and drivers. And the Fast
Five Promotion is our way to give back to the local racers at Macon Speedway”,
said Kenny Wallace, driver of the #78 Furniture Row Nextel Cup Car.
NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and Promoter Bob Sargent
purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007.
Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the
$100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is
located 9 miles south of Decatur, IL on US 51 then .6 miles west on Andrews
