Bahrs Finally Gets Win!!!
by: Brian Stuart
EAST MOLINE, IL (May 13) - Another 70 cars were in attendance this Sunday for a
great night of racing on Mother’s Day. All the mothers received a carnation when
they entered the grandstands last night too. Everyone was ready for some side by
side racing action and that’s what they got Sunday night.
The Best Choice Meat Market / Racers Edge B-Modifieds kicked off the show with
three heat races. The winners of those were Gary Weatherington in the 21W, Kevin
Dickey in the 42, and Jimmy Comins Jr. in the 83.
The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks ran their heats next. Winning those were the
16 of Dave Wadsager and the 00 of Rob Henry.
The A-Modifieds were next with two heats. Milo Veloz Jr. in the 43 won heat one
and the 1 of Kevin Blum took heat two.
The Builders World IMCA Late Models were up next with two heat races. Rob Toland
in the 39 won heat one and the 12 of Ray Guss Jr. the second heat.
The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinders ran their two heats next. Todd Sibley in the
125 won the first heat and the D26 of Wade Dahl won heat two.
The Best Choice Meat Market / Racers Edge B-Modifieds were back on the track for
their feature event next. Jake Waterman in the 10 draw the one spot for the
feature and was not challenged all race to take home the win. Racing threw the
rest of the field was fierce. The 42 of Kevin Dickey came charging up from us
11th starting spot and began running side by side with Chad Tomlinson in the 75
for second and eventually took it over. Then 15 of Brad Pershy started
challenging Dickey for the second spot. They put on good show with Dickey right
around the bottom and Pershy running the middle. In the end Dickey would take
second with Pershy taking third.
The Fields of Pizza Street Stocks hit the track next for their feature. Chris
Hambright in the 03 looked like the man to beat from his pole position at the
start of the feature. The 000 of Tony VonDresky had a different idea. He came
from his fifth starting spot and took over the lead running the bottom line
after a few laps.
VonDresky began to pull away and checked out. Then things got interesting for
second on back. Hambright slipped back and then last week’s feature Rick
Schriner in the 8 and opening night’s winner Dave Wadsager in the 16 began their
battler with Schriner running low and Wadsager running high. Then Hambright got
back into the picture sneaking under Schriner at one point. The ended up coming
across the line side by side with Schriner getting second and Hambright taking
third.
Up next were the A-Modifieds. Milo Veloz Jr. jumped out to a good size lead from
his outside front row starting point. Doug Crampton in the 40, Jason Pershy in
the 17, and Kevin Blum in the 1 began running three wide for second. Then Jeff
Morris in the 86 made his way back to the front after he went to the back after
spinning out. Morris began challenging Crampton for the second with Morris
running the bottom and Crampton running the high side. Behind them Brandon
Durbin started running side by side with Blum. Then Durbin, Blum, and Pershy
made it three wide. Back to the battle for second, as Crampton and Morris were
battling they started gaining on Veloz. Before you knew it Crampton was on Veloz
bumper and Morris was right next to him. They tried three wide several times
during the last few laps. Veloz was able to hold them both off and take the win.
Morris came home second followed by Crampton. That was one of the best
A-Modified races in the Quad City Area so far this season.
Now it was time for the Builders World IMCA Late Models. At the drop of the
green Adam Oppendike in the 29 and Andy Nezworski in the 7 began fighting for
first with Oppendike running high and Nezworski running low. Behind them the 42
of Fred Remley was down on the bottom with Hershel Roberts in the 58 running the
high side next to Remley. During those battles the 6 of Jason Bahrs, from his
eighth starting spot, started making his way through the field. Nezworski took
control of the lead and started to pull away. Then Remley start challenging
Oppendike for second. Bahrs finally caught Remley. Remley right around the
bottom and Bahrs was up high. They put on an excellent show. During all this two
seasoned veterans at QCR, Rob Toland in the 39 and Ray Guss Jr. in the 12, were
making their way through the field very fast. R. Toland started 10th and Guss
Jr. started 11th. After a restart R. Toland, Nezworski, and Bahrs made it 3
wide. Nezworski fell back and Guss made it 3 wide with R. Toland and Bahrs.
Bahrs took the lead on the high side and Guss start challenging him running
right around the bottom. After another caution we were set up for a green,
white, checkered. For the last two Guss and Toland were doing everything they
could to get around Bahrs but in the end they couldn’t do it and after finishing
second the last two weeks Jason Bahrs finally took home the feature win. Guss
would come home second followed by R. Toland.
The Stout Distributing 4 Cylinders ended the show with their feature event. This
feature started off with a bang. After making it three wide in turns one and two
the 33B of Tyler Bivens did it again in turns three and four but the wall got
him this time and even deployed his air bag. The 17M of Mike Morrow and the 125
of Todd Sibley put on the good show for first while the D26 of Wade Dahl was
making his way through the field from his 10th starting spot. Finally on the
last lap Dahl was able to get by Sibley and make it two in a row at QCR.
Everyone from Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to thank all the fans,
drivers, and sponsors for making Sunday another great night of racing at the
Quad City Raceway.
Don’t forget our next event is this Wednesday, May 16th. We will be running the
Deery Brothers Spring Clash make-up race. The IMCA Late Models will be running a
