Grady Takes First Career Deery Feature Win!!!
by: Brian Stuart
EAST MOLINE, IL (May 16) - With rain looming in the area all 24 IMCA Deery
Brothers Late Models returned to Quad City Raceway Wednesday night to make up
their feature event from April 22nd. The A-Modifieds were also in attendance to
run their make up feature from that night as well. As an added bonus the
B-Modifieds also run a complete $200 to win show.
The night got under way with two heat races in the B-Modified division. Kevin
Dickey in the 42 took heat one and the 15 of Brad Pershy won heat 2.
Up next was the make up feature for the A-Modifieds. At the drop of green flag
Doug Crampton, in the 40, looked like the man to beat. Thad Wilson in the 75W
was right on his bumper lap after lap. With Crampton and Wilson running the high
side around the track, Donovan Lodge in the 32 gave the bottom a try with no
success. On one of the restarts the 1 of Kevin Blum also tried the bottom but he
came up empty too. Crampton and Wilson started to pull away and on lap 15 Wilson
was able to get around Crampton for the lead. Wilson then checked out and was
not challenged the rest of the race. Crampton took second followed by Lodge and
then Blum.
Now it was time for the main event, a 50 lap IMCA Deery Brothers Late Model
feature. Once the green flag came out the three and four wide racing began.
Right away Fred Remley in the 42R, who started on the pole, Andy Nezworski in
the 7, and Terry Neal in the 28C went three wide with Neal coming out of it with
the lead. Neal was running the very bottom of the track and started to build a
large lead. In the meantime Ray Guss Jr. in the 12 from the 9th starting spot,
Jeremy Grady in the 43 from the 10th starting spot, and the 39 of Rob Toland
from the 12th starting spot, started making their way through the field. Grady
managed to get all the way up to second and start to catch Neal who was battling
lapped traffic. The yellow flag came out with 25 laps to go. That gave Grady the
chance he needed. After the restart Neal and Grady ran side by side for a few
laps. Grady was running high and Neal was running low. Another caution came out
for the 12 of Ray Guss Jr. After that next restart Grady was able to get around
Neal and pull away from the field. While all this was going on the 6 of Jason
Bahrs coming from his 11th starting spot had made his way up to the front along
with Eric Gustaf in the 90. E. Gustaf started 18th. After another yellow and
restart Grady was unchallenged and took home his first career Deery Brothers
feature win.
The B-Modifieds ran their feature last to finish up the show. The 15 of Brad
Pershy was able to get out front early and not look back. The 8 of Greg Durbin
and the 42 of Kevin Dickey run side by side for second with Dickey eventually
coming out ahead. The 10 of Jake Waterman started making his way through the
field but got caught up with another driver ended up spinning out into the
infield which ended his night. Pershy had things in control until the last two
laps when Dickey got right on his bumper and began challenging him for the lead.
Pershy held him off and took home the victory.
