MACON SPEEDWAY STREET STOCK SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL, FASTER
PASTORS, AND CATERPILLAR® DECATUR
by: Tonya Moschell
MACON, IL (June 16) - Racing Fans and the men and women of Caterpillar® Decatur
flocked to Macon for another great show Saturday night. Racers Cody Wickline and
J.J. Golladay, members of the Caterpillar family, carried the flags during the
national anthem. Macon Speedway also featured the “Faster Pastor” racing event
in which local pastors jumped into four cylinder hornet race cars to run a few
laps on the dirt. B.G. Nevit of Glad Tidings Assembly of God showed his racing
prowess, winning by a stretch.
Other participants included Waylon Lawrence – Lovington Christian Church, John Coney – Assumption Christian Church, Dan Raymond – South Shores Christian Church.
Greg Kimmons won the Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman feature race. Scott Landers
gave Kimmons a run for his money late in the race but simply ran out of laps.
Kimmons said of being chased by Landers, “He was right there the whole time.”
The #73P car of Dave Smith started in the back of the field, worked his way
through traffic and finished third.
Kyle Logue started from the pole in the BARBECK Communications Modified feature
race. Logue was driving the #25 National Guard decaled car that he loaned to
NASCAR star Casey Mears on Thursday. The race started 18 cars, but only eight
cars restarted after a caution with three laps to go. Springfield’s Randy Myers
chased down Logue after each the frequent yellow flags, but crossed the finish
in second place. Jim Leka scooted inside Roger Drake in the exit of turn four on
the final lap to steal away third.
The Late Model feature gave racing fans a dose of spectacular side-by-side
racing between Jason Cleaver and #40 Greg Kimmons. Cleaver eventually put
Kimmons behind him by using a high outside line that wasn’t paying off for many
other drivers. In a heavily contested four-care race for third, John Woodard
grabbed the spot.
Terry Reed, Larry Russell Jr., Steve Ewing, and Brian Cassell were
bumper-to-bumper through the final turns of the Street stock feature. Reed held
off a lot of tough challengers to earn himself a $500 prize in the Street Stock
Saturday Night Special. Russell Jr. finished second in front of Ewing whose
“Lighting McQueen” decaled car took some damage during some close racing.
Another victory in the hornet class was captured by Joe Reed. Runner-Up Jeff
Dodd had his car on the inside of Reed in the last turn of the last lap but lost
grip and hesitated just enough for Reed to cross the finish line in first place.
Past hornet feature winner Bruce Dulgar finished in third place.
NASCAR Stars Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Tony Stewart and local Promoter Bob
Sargent purchased Macon Speedway in January of 2007.
Macon Speedway – racing every Saturday Night – is proud to be part of the
$100,000 Contingency Connection program for the 2007 season. Macon Speedway is
