Defending POWRi Midget Series Champ Loyet Becomes Fourth Driver to Win Feature in 2008 Driver leads final eight laps of race at Belle-Clair; Jeremy Camp wins in Micro-Sprints MILLSTADT, Ill. (June 8, 2008) – Brad Loyet became the fourth driver in as many races on Saturday to win in O’Reilly POWRi National Midget Series Presented By Lucas Oil feature competition, as he led the final eight laps at the fifth-mile Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. Loyet, who has improved his series winning streak to four consecutive at the track, passed Ryan Criswell with a slide job – and making contact with Criswell in the process– on Lap 23 of 30. The pass came on the final of three restarts, which came following a red flag period as a result of five cars involved in incidents around the track. Following the winning pass, Loyet held off point leader Zach Daum – who led the first lap of the feature – by a car-and-a-half at the checkered flag. Starting fifth in the feature, Loyet also won a heat race. The contact dropped Criswell – seeking his first career POWRi win after leading 21 laps – to eighth. Daum’s runner-up finish was his second of the season. He held off the reigning Micro-Sprint champion Dereck King, Steve Knepper and Donnie Lehmann. Knepper was making his first start since announcing last year was his last full season of Midget racing. Other heat winners included Daum, Nick Knepper and Gary Altig. Steve Knepper was the semifeature winner. Twenty-nine Midgets participated in preliminary action and the feature. Jeremy Camp also added his name to the POWRi Micro-Sprint record books, as he notched his first career series victory. He started on the pole and led all 20 laps of the race to finish ahead of Andrew Peters, Dereck King, Jacob Patton and Mark Gass. Only three yellows slowed the race’s pace, but no one had a challenge for Camp on the restarts, as he led at the checkered flag by nearly a car length. Camp also won a heat race, as did King, Peters, Eric Edwards, Brandon Graybeal and Max Pozsgai. Edwards, who won the first two Micro-Sprint features of the season, finished sixth in the feature. Fifty-three cars were on hand for preliminaries and the feature. 600cc Outlaw Micro Feature Results: Jeremy Camp, Andrew Peters, Dereck King, Jacob Patton, Mark Gass, Eric Edwards, Andy Malpocker, Brandon Graybeal, Jake Mosley, Tyler Robbins, Ryan Langston, Kyle Neal, Chad Kendall, Natasha Cox, Randy Foutch, Nic Harris, Jason Harms, Brad McDaniel, Daulton Greven, Ben Wagoner, Scott Plew, Max Pozsgai, Ryan Guyett National Midget Feature Results: Brad Loyet, Zach Daum, Dereck King, Steve Knepper, Donnie Lehmann, Mike Hess, Ryan Criswell, Tim Siner, Tyler Robbins, Daniel Adler, Tony Roney, Gary Altig, Derek Hagar, Daniel Robinson, Dan Mecum, Brett Anderson, Jay Mounce, Kellen Conover, Mike Riley, Donnie Beechler, Austin Brown, Nick Knepper Complete race results can be found under "More Info" located within the Midget / Micro schedule on the POWRi Website. |
