FARMER CITY, IL (June 13) - On a very nice evening in central Illinois, Friday the Thirteenth not withstanding, the drivers that raced at Farmer City Raceway put on a great show for the fans. Fast time went to Steve Sheppard Jr at 12.488 seconds of the 23 late models on hand. Sheppard then won the first heat by a straightaway over Joe Harlan and Derek Chandler. The second heat went to Kyle Logue in a spirited battle over Kerry Matthew and Brandon Sheppard. The third heat went to Eric Smith in a close battle over Donny Walden and Scott Schmitt. The semi feature went to Charlie Hess over Chris Dick. The feature event had Steve Sheppard Jr take the initial lead
from the pole position, only to have Eric Smith take that spot away just a
few laps later. The two would battle for the lead the whole race, which was
only slowed by one caution just past halfway. Joe Harlan saw the leaders
having so much fun, that he joined them in dicing back and forth. Smith
eventually won the race, with Harlan second and Sheppard Jr a close third.
The most thrilling part of the feature was watching Matt Taylor come from
the fourteenth starting spot to finish fourth. unofficial finish: The Jeff Leka class put on a great show for the fans as well. Heats went to Denny Schwartz, Jeff Leka and Jeff Curl. The semi went to Danny Schwartz. The feature was a real barn-burner, as once again the fans were treated to the Jeff and Denny show. Jeff Leka took the early lead, but was chased by, and held off Denny Schwartz, along with Jay Ledford, as the trio battled lap after lap for the lead. Leka held on for the win, followed closely by Jay Ledford, with Denny Schwartz alongside. Following the lead trio to the checkers were Cory Schwengel, Jeff Curl, Chad Evans, Chad Osterhoff, Mckay Wenger, Rob Fuqua and Matt Goulden. The Kidmodz feature went to Joseph Hughes over Bobby Pierce. The Streetstock feature was another very exciting race with the win going to Terry Miller over Josh Griffith, Jim Quinn, Greg Rubenacker and Brandon Kessinger, who was only about two car lengths behind Miller at the checkers. The Sportsman feature was a definite victory for Ben Hulse as he powered away from Jason Unzicker, Joel Funk Jr, Curt Vincent, Derek Hufford and Rod Rusher. The Hornet class also put on a great show, with heats going to Chris Burton and Joe Reed. Reed would also claim the feature, but Burton was there the entire race side-by-side or nose to tail the entire distance. Third went to Eric Wilson, followed closely by Kyle Taylor and Dan Flesner. The second heat saw Stacy Whitehouse take a dramatic spill off turn number one, going over two and three fourth times, but Stacy jumped out of the car unhurt, and helped the wrecker crew haul off his destroyed racecar. There were a total of 103 cars in the pits and all racing activity was
