Fan Appreciation Night at Macon Speedway MACON, IL (July 5) - Saturday night was Fan Appreciation Night at Macon Speedway. The stands were packed with fans and the pits were overflowing with cars. All the race events this week were made possible by Hickory River Smokehouse and the Cromwell Radio group. The Summer Nationals Herald and Review 100, rained out on Thursday, is rescheduled for Saturday, August 16th. Thanks to Kenny Wallace and Ewing Auto Sales, Troy Craig from Decatur is going home with a new car. And the crew at Cromwell Radio gave away some fabulous prizes during intermission, including tickets to Country Concert '08, won by Carlee Beeson. Macon Speedway also picked out a few more qualifiers for the Tony's Tahoe Giveaway. Jane Johnson, Troy Hogar, Tom Lambdin and Sandra Gillaspie will all have a shot to win a brand new Chevy Tahoe on September 6th. Tim Dudley, co-host of Tara and Tim in the Morning on 105.1 WEJT, got to take a ride in Macon Speedway's two-seat Late Model. Kyle Logue was happy to give Dudley a few laps around the country's fastest 1/5 mile. "I was too afraid to do anything. I was just hanging on for dear life." Dudley said of his Late Model ride." Tara Nickerson enjoyed watching her co-host fly around the track, "They asked me to do it. But I said, 'I'll pass.'" The Chevrolet Late Model feature race was a fiery one-on-one with Kyle Logue and Jayme Zidar. These two Macon Speedway vets have been racing each other at the front of Late Model races for years. Zidar and Logue exchanged positions lap for lap until Logue finally pulled away for the win. “I gave him the lead. I just gave it to him. But then I passed him right back. That was a dogfight.” Logue said about his sixth feature win. Logue came away with victory and Zidar ended up second with Butch Smith right behind in third. Jeremy Nichols’ brand new car has owned the high line the last two weeks. He picked up his third feature win in the BARBECK Communications Modifieds. Perhaps the move of the race had nothing to do with the lead. Mark Tullis spun out into the infield, trying not to lose too many positions, he rocketed his car back onto the track right in front of the leaders. Nichols slammed the brakes and dove to the inside to avoid a race-ending wreck. The Best Fan in the Stand winning driver Roger Drake chose Jeff Drake as his best fan, earning them both $100. Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman points leader Jeff Graham won his third feature of the racing season. Mike Pickering and Scott Landers couldn't run him down. Dennis Vandermeersch took the #B99 Sportsman, usually driven my Tim Bedinger, up to fourth. James Hankins won his first hornet feature of 2008. Mike Pickering got his street stock back to victory lane for the first time since April 19th. The #99 has been a regular sight for years at Macon Speedway and Team Pickering has that car back on the right track. Al Crawley has his street stock right where he needs it to be, he finished a strong second behind Pickering. James Hankins and Zach Dodd each picked up a checkered flag in the hornets.
