Young Gun Donny Walden takes career first Late Model feature win in
convincing style at Farmer City Raceway!
by:
Dan StewartFARMER CITY,
IA (July 11) - Donny Walden began his Late Model racing career a few years
back, with his first night ending up on his roof. The young man has matured,
and Friday night his maturity and ability to learn paid off with his very
first feature win. The evening started with Scott Bull turning in fast time
of the twenty late models on hand. Aaron Ricketts won the first heat over
Jayme Zidar, Scott Bull and Mike Mataragas. The second heat went to Donny
Walden, after starting fourth and powering his way around second place
finisher Derek Chandler, the duo was followed by Scott Schmitt and Eric
Smith to the checkers. Walden started the feature outside front row next to
Aaron Ricketts. Walden jumped to the early lead with Ricketts right on his
tail or next to him the first part of the race. The front duo were turning
lap times in the feature that were almost as fast as they time trialed
earlier. Surviving a couple of cautions, Walden would get the jump at the
restarts and secure his position all the way to the checkers. Ricketts would
hold on for second, with a very determined Scott Bull alongside for the
latter part of the race. Zidar came home fourth with Mike Mataragas
finishing fifth.
