Macon Speedway celebrated the Dog Days of Summer Saturday Night MACON, IL (July 26) - Macon Speedway celebrated the Dog Days
of Summer Saturday Night. Along with a show full of fast action racing, the
track also hosted the annual wiener dog race during the intermission. The
Chevrolet Late Models, BARBECK Communications Modifieds, Hogan Grain/KUBOTA
Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro Hornets and Amateur Hornets all hit the track
along with a special running of the Kidz Modz series. The winner was Bobby
Pierce Jr. Kyle Logue led again from flag to flag, his eighth Late Model feature win
of the season. But the most impressive run was by 15 year old Brandon
Sheppard, son of Late Model star Steve Sheppard Jr.. Brandon’s racked up two
consecutive second place finishes at Macon Speedway. Even Logue was
impressed, “Every time I though I could relax, here comes Brandon. I had to
get back up on the wheel. He’s a good racer. He’s going to be tough in a
couple of years.” Logue has won eight of the 12 late model races at Macon
Speedway this year and now holds a commanding points lead. Macon Speedway legend Jim Leka inherited the lead early in the race and
held off a challenge from Mark Tullis to the win BARBECK Communications
Modified feature. Leader and pole-sitter Dave Crawley had to pull his car
off the track when he left his drive shaft lying in turn two. Tullis had
best run of his 2008 season in winning his heat race and finishing second in
the feature. Best Fan in the Stands driver Allen Burcham picked Rose Bud as
his best fan, earning them both $100. Al Crawley gave it everything he could, but Steve Ewing’s street stock
was just too fast. The defending street stock champion Ewing has his car
running similar to last year when he dominated the class. Jeff Dodd won the
pro hornet feature by nearly half a lap over Bruce Dulgar. Dodd has captured
two checkered flags this year. Chevrolet Late Models BARBECK Communications Modifieds Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman Pro Hornets |
