Four Track Champions Crowned at QCR EAST MOLINE, IL (August 24) - It was Season Championship time at the Quad City Raceway and 77 cars in four divisions jammed into the pits. With Sunday being the final night of points three out of the four divisions were still undecided. There were also Mechanic Races and Box Car Races Sunday night. Feature races got under with UMP Street Stocks and the top four in points were only separated by 12 points going into Sunday night. Nathan Hall jumped out to the early lead with Jason Bahrs and Buck Harmening right on him. For several laps Hall, Bahrs, and Harmening were all over each other. Eventually Bahrs and Harmening would get by Hall and then Bahrs would pull away from Harmening. Clint Morehouse made a late charge and raced Harmening side by side for several laps. Bahrs would go onto win another feature at QCR with Morehouse second followed Hall, Harmening, and Chris Hambright, who started 10th. The heat race wins went to Morehouse and Harmening. Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to congratulate Nathan Hall on winning the 2008 UMP Street Stock Track Championship at QCR. Amazingly, Hall did not win a feature this season either. The UMP 4 Cylinders were up next. This has been growing every week and Sunday night 21 UMP 4 Cylinders checked in the pits. The point leader going into Sunday night, Wade Dahl, found himself on the outside of the front row and he took full advantage of that at the drop of the green flag. Todd Sibley, Joseph Wagner, Travis Wilson, and R.J. Gonzales all battled each other for second place through out the race. Dahl would lead every lap picking up the win. Sibley would hold off a charging R.J. Gonzales for second, they were followed by Wilson and then Wagner. The heat race wins went to Wilson and Wagner. Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like congratulate Wade Dahl on winning his second consecutive 4 Cylinder Track Championship at QCR. The IMCA Late Models rolled onto the track next with track championship still undecided as well as the IMCA National Championship undecided. Going into the weekend Ray Guss Jr. had a one point lead in the IMCA National Points but a stipulation in winning an IMCA National Championship is you must be a track champion. Guss was 14 points behind Mike Murphy Jr. going into Sunday at QCR. Once the green flag waved Murphy grabbed the lead with Guss right on his bumper. Lap after lap Murphy and Guss fought it out. Murphy ran the bottom line the whole race while Guss was trying anything and everything to try and get by Murphy. Guss finally found something running the high side in turns one and two and the bottom behind Murphy in turns three and four. With three laps to go Guss used that line to get by Murphy and win the race. Murphy would take second followed by Adam Oppendike, Shawn Mulvany, and LeRoy Brenner. Heat race wins went to Guss, Dave Engelkens, and Nate Beuseling. Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to congratulate Mike Murphy Jr. on winning the IMCA Late Models Track Championship at QCR. Out came the UMP Modifieds next. Only ten points separated Doug Crampton and Milo Veloz Jr. for first place coming into tonight but Veloz wanted to put on a show for the fans so he decided to take the Front Row Challenge and go to the back and try to double his money. With 23 UMP Modifieds scheduled to race Veloz was going to have his hands full. Crampton grabbed the lead right away and began pulling away with Mitch Morris and Jason Pershy battling for second. Meanwhile in the back Veloz was moving through the field very quickly. Back up front a few cautions gave Morris a chance to challenge Crampton for lead but Crampton would hold him off every time. Unfortunately for Veloz, he ran out of laps was only able to make it up to fifth. Crampton would go onto win with Morris second followed by Doug Curless, Ray Bollinger, and Veloz. The heat races went to Veloz, Morris, and Crampton. Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to congratulate Doug Crampton on the UMP Modifieds Track Championship at QCR. The night of racing concluded with Mechanic Races. Brian Bodin in UMP Street Stocks won driving Jason Bahrs 96, Blake Gonzales won the UMP 4 Cylinders driving his brother, R.J. Gonzales 39G, Allen Oppendike won the IMCA Late Models driving his son, Adam Oppendikes 29, and Jerry Bailey Sr. won the UMP Modifieds driving his son, Jerry Bailey Jr.s 88J.
