Macon Speedway World's Fastest 1/5 mile MACON, IL (August 30) - The pits at Macon Speedway were absolutely full of cars this week, eager for their chance to take on the World's Fastest 1/5 mile Saturday Night. The fans in the stands were treated to one of the best shows of the season with the track in perfect condition for fast racing. The drivers didn't disappoint with plenty of nail-biting finishes all night long. Six more qualifiers were selected for the Tony's Tahoe giveaway, set for next week. Gary Crowe, Zach Page, John Graham, Roger Drake, Melvin Dulgar and Michelle Chandler will all get their chance to win. One lucky racing fan will drive home a brand new Chevy Tahoe thanks to track co-owner Tony Stewart. The Chevrolet Late Model feature went to Ryan Little, his first late model victory. Macon native Kerby Damery used every line he could think of get to the leader, but never got closer than a car-length. Terry Babb stayed with the leaders and finished in third. Dave Crawley won the BARBECK Communications Modified feature. Crawley had to hold off a very fast Mark Tullis to do it. Crawley’s win gives him five features for the year in a very tough Modified division. Tullis, the second place finisher has had a fast car the past few weeks but has finished poorly with some back luck. His second place finish showed what his car can do when luck is on his side. Best fan in the stands driver Kenny Morris picked Mark Morris as his best fan, earning them both a $100 prize. It didn’t take Norm Wood long to get his Sportsman back to victory lane. Wood recently returned to Macon Speedway after a lengthy absence. But Wood’s #89 found its way to the front again for the first time since the season opener on April 5th. Mike Pickering found enough speed late in the race to take second place away from Alan Crowder on the last lap. Wood got a thumbs-up from his friend Pickering as the two met in victory lane. Mike Pickering drove the wheels off of the old #99 trying to end Steve
Ewing’s hot streak. But the “Lightning McQueen” #95 has been too fast for
anyone in recent weeks. Ewing’s made it seven feature wins in a row and is
well on his way to repeating as street stock track champion. BARBECK Communications Modifieds Hogan Grain/KUBOTA Sportsman Street Stocks Hornets (pro) Hornets (amateur) |
