EAST MOLINE, IL (May 31) - Mother Nature provided Quad City Raceway with another beautiful night to go racing. 79 cars checked into the pits to battle on the night. The night was highlighted by a first time winner in the Street Stocks and a 15 side by side battle in the Mod-Lites. First up were the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stocks. The heat races were contested on a very tacky race track. Heat race one was picked up by Jason Church, winning his first heat race on the year. Heat two was picked up by Colona Illinois driver Chris Lawrence. In the feature event, it was Chris Lawrence took the lead from the green flag. Lawrence would basically run off and hide leading all 15 laps to take his very first feature win. Matt Werner had another good run finishing second, and Muscatine Iowa driver Greg Gill was third. Next class up is the Aarons Affordable Towing 4 cylinders. Heat race action was very wild as racing was three and four wide at times. Heat race one was picked up by Pekin Illinois driver John Schuck. Heat race two was won by Dale Tucker. In the twelve lap main event, Todd Sibley grabbed the lead on lap one, but on lap two Eric Wisher would use the bottom side of the racetrack and pull ahead. Wisher led the rest of the way holding off Sibley at the checkers. Scotty Powell finished third and Taco Jones had his best run of the year finishing forth. The Avenue Rental IMCA Late Models had there biggest car count of the year. Twenty-two cars checked into the pits to compete. In heat race one Adam Opendike took home win, holding off Jeremy Gustaf. In heat two Morrison Illinois driver Mike Garland picked up the victory, and Shawn Mulvaney won heat race number three. In the 25 lap feature event, Mike Garland jumped out to the race lead, using the topside of the race track. Garland quickly entered lap traffic dicing his way thru the slower cars. Point leader Kevin Blum, was quickly making his way his to the front from his 12th starting position. On lap 15 the caution flag would wave for debris putting Blum right on Garland’s bumper. And it would only take 1 lap for Blum to take the lead and go on for the victory. Quad City Raceway Hall of Famer, Hershel Roberts was second, and Adam Opendike was third. Finishing forth was National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer, Gary Webb, and Mike Garland rounded out the top five.
Now onto the Eastern Iowa Landscaping Services LLC UMP Modfieds. Heat races
were won by Brad Pershy and Jason Bahrs. In the twenty lap feature event,
Doug Crampton grabbed the early race lead with Milo Veloz Jr. running
second. The two pulled away from the field using the top side of the race
track. Then on lap 11 Veloz Jr., took the lead as Crampton was dealing with
a lapped car in turn four. Veloz Jr. Would go on to pick up the win, in the
caution free twenty lap race. Crampton would wind up second and Nathan
Balensiefen was third.
