Balensiefen Finally Gets a Win on Father’s Day

EAST MOLINE, IL (June 21) - On a day that mother nature tried to do everything she could do to get the races cancelled, she would not prevail. After over an inch of rain in the morning, the track crew worked all day to get the race track ready for action. All five classes were in action on the evening, on a very tacky, hammer down race track.

First class up is the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stocks. In the heat race action, it was Clint Moorehouse picking up the win, using the top side of the speedway. Chris Lawrence was second and Joe Beal finished third. In the Feature event, it was Muscatine Iowa driver Greg Gill taking the lead from the outset and cruising to the fifteen lap feature event checkers. Moorehouse was second, and Lawrence finished third.

In the Aarons Affordable Towing 4 Cylinders, Pekin driver Eric Wisher was your heat race winner. Braceville Illinois driver DJ Werkmeister was second and Justin Veloz was third.

The feature event, which was twelve laps in distance, was a barn-burner. Wisher and Werkmeister, two of the best 4 cylinder drivers in the state of Illinois, started side by side on the front row. The two would race all twelve laps side by side with each driver leading six laps. The two drivers were never more than a car length apart. As DJ Werkmeister would lead the most important lap, the 12th lap. Wisher finished second by a nose. Veloz would finish in third spot, with Todd Sibley and Chad Tucker rounding out the top 5.

Next up is the Eastern Iowa Landscaping LLC Ump Modifieds. In heat race action, Brandon Durbin picked up the first heat race. Milo Veloz was second and Jeff Morris was third. In heat race number two, Craig Crawford was the heat race winner. Jerry Bailey Jr. Finished second, and Ray Bollinger was third. In the 20 lap feature event, Brandon Durbin took the lead from the drop of the green flag. Durbin would lead the first 19 laps, while driving a car , without any power steering. But on the final lap, Nathan Balensiefen would use the bottom side of the race track, and slide up for the win. Bollinger using the middle nosed out Durbin for second, and Durbin was third. Craig Crawford was 4th and Jeff Morris finished 5th.

In the Avenue Rental IMCA Late Models heat race action, Ray Guss Jr. Picked up the first heat race win. Dave Englekins was second, and Hall of Famer Gary Webb was third. In heat race two, Mike Garland was victorious, Kevin Blum was second, and Adam Opendike was third. In the Feature event, Mike Garland was your early race leader, but 9th starting Kevin Blum wasted no time getting to the front, and by lap 8 he was your race leader, and Blum would go on to capture the 25 lap main event. It was Blum’s fourth straight win of the year, and fifth in seven starts. Ray Guss Jr. Tried to make a late charge but fell just short, and finished second. Nate Buesling finished third, Mike Garland was 4th, and Cory Goldbeck rounded out the top five.

Finally it was the Galesburg Machine Shop Inc. Mod-Lites. In the heat race, Milo Veloz Jr. took the win. Chad Coyne was second, and Jason masengarb was third. In the Feature event, it was Shon Sanders once again taking the win, his third of the season, Milo Veloz Jr. Was second, and David Norton came home third. Rob Guss and Chad Coyne rounded out your top five.

On a final note, the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will be action this Sunday night, also in action will be the IMCA Late Models, UMP Modifieds, and UMP Street Stocks. Gates will open at 4pm, with racing at 6pm.
