UMP DIRTcar Racing National Points Update: Feger Emerges From
Summer Nationals With Super Late Model Points Lead
GRAYVILLE, IL (July 18) – Jason Feger fell short of capturing the 2009
UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals championship, but he emerged from the grueling
month of Super Late Model action sitting atop the circuit's other
high-profile points battle.
Feger, 31, of Bloomington, Ill., leads the latest UMP DIRTcar Racing
national Super Late Model points standings, which were released on Thursday
by organization officials.
An exciting young driver known as the ‘Highside Hustler,' Feger held a
62-point lead (2,531-2,469) over two-time defending national champion Dennis
Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., in the Super Late Model standings
tabulated through July 13.
Both Feger, who finished fourth in the Summer Nationals points race, and Erb,
who captured his third straight Summer Nationals title, entered this
weekend's UMP DIRTcar Racing action having already reached the magic 40-race
threshold. The national Super Late Model standings are determined using
drivers' 40 best finishes/points nights, so Feger and Erb will now begin
replacing poor outings.
Feger, who won Summer Nationals A-Mains on June 24 at Tri-City Speedway in
Pontoon Beach, Ill., and June 30 at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway, is seeking his
first career UMP DIRTcar Racing national title. He finished a career-high
third in the 2008 points standings.
Erb, meanwhile, is attempting to sweep the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals and
national crowns for an unprecedented third consecutive season.
In the UMP DIRTcar Modified ranks, Gary Cook Jr. of Deer Creek, Ill.,
continued to expand his national points lead. He entered this weekend's
competition with a 131-point edge (2,189-2,058) over Randle Sweeney of
Clifty, Ky. – up from the 87-point lead Cook sported over Sweeney in the
previous week's standings.
Other UMP DIRTcar national points leaders through July 13 include Tait
Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo,
Ill. (Sportsman), Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds), Chris
Fisher of Bluff Point, N.Y. (Stock Cars), Bill May of Muskegon, Mich.
(Factory Stocks) and Joe Reed of Decatur, Ill. (Sport Compacts).
