UMP DIRT Racing National Points Update: Feger Keeps Slim Lead On Erb In
Super Late Model Standings, Cook Maintains Modified Edge
MARYVILLE, IL – Aug. 21, 2009 – Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., remained
the UMP DIRTcar Racing national Super Late Model points leader for the
second straight week, but his slight edge became even more precarious.
Feger, 31, lost two points off his lead in races run through Aug. 17,
sending him into this weekend’s UMP DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned action with a
12-point advantage (2,766-2,754) over two-time defending national Super Late
Model champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill.
The top two drivers in the national rankings ran head-to-head twice last
weekend, on Aug. 14 at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway and Aug. 15 at
Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway. Feger won the Monster Midwest Tour
event at Kankakee with Erb finishing second, while at Fairbury Erb finished
fifth and Feger settled for a 14th-place outing.
Another player to watch in the national points race, which ends with the UMP
DIRTcar Nationals on Oct. 9-10 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, is
Randy Korte of Highland, Ill. He’s now fourth in the standings and still has
one more start to make before reaching the 40-race threshold, at which time
he’ll join Feger and Erb in replacing his worst points nights/finishes.
A big win on Aug. 15 at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill., helped Gary
Cook Jr. of Deer Creek, Ill., remain in control of the UMP UMP DIRTcar
national Modified points standings.
Cook added five points to his lead from the previous week, putting himself
up by 88 points (2,357-2,269) over Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky., whose pair
of victories last weekend (Aug 14 at Soggy Bottom Raceway in Morgantown,
Ky., and Aug. 15 at Tennessee’s Clarksville Raceway) couldn’t bring him
closer.
Other UMP DIRTcar national points leaders through Aug. 17 included Tait
Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo,
Ill. (Sportsman), Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds), Rick
Thomas of Koehler, Ill. (Stock Cars), Bill May of Muskegon, Mich. (Factory
Stocks) and Bob Zbinden of Alhambra, Ill. (Sport Compacts).
