Burgtorf the Best in the Classic

EAST MOLINE, IL (September 29) - It was 3rd Annual Quad City Raceway Hall of Fame Weekend. The Quad City Raceway was proud to put Charlie Moffit, Tuffy Meyer, Ken Reimers, Ray Guss Jr, Gene Freeman, Bill Starr, and Duane Steffe all in the Hall of Fame. Everyone game excellent speeches during the ceremonies.


The Racing action began Friday night with racing in the three classes. In the UMP Modifieds heat races were won by Mike Zemo Jr, Vince Cooper and Dave Wietholder. The consi was picked up by Richie Biswell. In the feature event, 2009 track champion Doug Crampton picked up another victory. Vince Cooper would wind up 2nd, and Richie Biswell from 17th starting spot was 3rd.


Also running were the UMP 4 Cylinders. Heat races won by UMP National point leader Joe Reed, and Scotty Powell. In the feature event Scotty Powell held up challenges all race long to capture the 12 lap feature event. Joe Reed would wind up 2nd, and Eric Wisher would round out the top three.
In the Mod-Lites on Friday night, Jason Masengarb and Jeremy Mowery picked up the heat race wins. In the feature event, 2009 track champion Jason Masengarb picked up another feature win, leading almost all 15 laps. Booby Fox was 2nd, and Shon sanders was 3rd.


On Saturday night UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, Midwest Jalopies, and IMCA Late Models were the classes running. In the UMP Modifeds, heat races were won Jason Pershy, Brandon Durbin, and Mike Spatola. The consi was picked off by Nathan Balensiefen. In the feature event, Brandon Durbin lead the first 19 laps, but coming out of turn four, UMP National point leader Gary Cook Jr, got underneath Durbin and took the win by about 6 inches to pick up another feature win. Brandon Durbin was 2nd, and Mike Spatola finished 3rd.


In the Street Stocks, the heat race was won by Matt Werner over Greg Gill. In the 15 lap main event, it was the same results as Matt Werner would pick up the win over Greg Gill, Jimmy Simpson would make a late pass to finish 3rd.


The Midwest Jalopies were also on hand as Terry Mattly picked up the heat race win in his 33 Chevy Coupe. In the feature event, Chris Gillmore picked up the win in his 38 Dodge Coupe, Terry Mattly was 2nd, and Rodney Haack was 3rd, also driving a 33 Chevy Coupe.


The IMCA Late Models had time trials and heat races tonight. Mike Murphy Jr set quick time, with a time of 14.403. In the heat race action, Mike Murphy Jr, Nate Buesling, Jason Frankel, and Rob Toland all picked up heat race wins.


On Sunday night, only 2 classes were running. The $2000 to win 16th Annual Gary Reinhart Memorial for the UMP Modifieds, and the $4000 to win 100 lap Hall of Fame Classic for the IMCA Late Models.


First the UMP Modifeds were up. Heat races were won by Dale Lueth, Doug Crampton, Jeff Leka, and Joe Adam. Milo Veloz Jr picked up the consi event. In the 30 lap feature event, it was Gary Cook Jr picking up his 24th win of the season, as he ran the last 6 lap with a hole in his radiator and a motor going south. He held off Ray Guss Jr who had actually gotten by, but lost a bolt on th pinion of the 128 Brandon Dean race car. Ray Would pull into the infield on lap 18. Mike Spatola would finish 2nd as he had pulled along side of Cook, but needed one more lap. Vince Cooper came from the back of the pack to finish 3rd. Mike Zemo Jr had a very impressive showing coming home 4th, and Doug Crampton rounded out the top five.


In the IMCA Late Models, Terry Neal captured the consi event, with Dave Englekens, Doug Curless, and Todd Malmstrom also making the 100 lapper. In the feature event, Mike Murphy Jr was you early race leader, but on lap 25 Mark Burgtorf got underneath Murphy Jr took take the race lead and went on to pick up the 100 lap event, holding off challenges by Ray Guss Jr and Terry Neal. Terry Neal, who started 17th, finished 2nd. Ray Guss Jr, who was a 2009 Hall of Fame inductee was 3rd. Rob Toland would finish 4th, and Todd Malmstrom would round out the top five.


Racing action continues Sunday night, October 4th, with racing in all five classes Lae Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and Mod-Lites. We will also be having Powder Puff and Mechanic Races. Gates will open at 4pm, with racing action at 6pm. There will alsp be a presentation in all five classes for the top five in points.
