DIRTcar UMP Weekly Points Update: Young McBride (Late
Models), Veteran Sweeney (Modifieds) Top National Standings
MARYVILLE, IL (April 16, 2010) – Rising young talent Jason McBride of
Carbondale, Ill. (Late Models) and veteran Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky.
(Modifieds) sit atop the national points standings after the first two weeks
of the 2010 weekly points season for DIRTcar Racing's UMP circuit.
Now in his third year of DIRTcar Late Model competition, the 23-year-old
McBride enters this weekend's action leading the national points standings
by 76 points (584-508) over Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich. He's coming off
a solid three-race weekend that saw him score a victory on April 10 at
Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway, a third-place finish on April 9 at Paducah
(Ky.) International Raceway and a seventh on April 11 in the first race at
Vermilion County Speedway in Danville, Ill., promoted by legendary driver
and car builder Bob Pierce.
Schlenk, who finished third in last year's national points standings, also
raced three times last weekend. His highlight came on April 10 at I-55
Raceway in Pevely, Mo., where he rolled to a victory that made his long haul
to the Show-Me State worthwhile.
Sweeney, 45, once again is off to a strong start in the UMP Modified ranks,
leading the national rankings by 24 points (659-635) over Stormy Scott of
Las Cruces, N.M. The Bluegrass State standout has led the national standings
early in each of the past several seasons and has been among the circuit's
most prolific winners, but he's still in search of his first national title.
Other divisional points leaders include Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky.
(Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo, Ill. (Sportsman), Shane Hebert
of Lafayette, La. (Limited Modifieds), Trevor Gamble of DeLeon Springs, Fla.
(Stock Cars), Scott Mooers of Osteen, Fla. (Factory Stocks) and Michael
Rittenberry of Clarksville, Tenn. (Sport Compacts).
