MACON SPEEDWAY TO HONOR TWO GREAT MEN OF MACON SPEEDWAY

MACON, IL (April 29) - Macon Speedway is honored to remember two great men that were involved with the speedway. As we dedicate the reserved seating section to Wayne Webb and will commemorate this dedication with a sign for all fans to help them remember who started the love affair with dirt track racing in Macon, IL. We are also proud to announce the formation of a Scholarship to be named after Phil Sargent for the area High Schools as part of the High School Hornet division at the speedway.

The ritual of auto racing that Central Illinois celebrates each year is due in large part to Wayne, the Decatur man who turned a pasture into Macon Speedway in 1946. Wayne served in the U.S. Army until 1946 and then needed something to focus on so he bought the seven acre pasture.  History was made with that sale.  Wayne helped make Macon Speedway a household name and imbedded the track in area racing fans’ hearts.

Macon Speedway is proud to announce the formation of the Phil Sargent Scholarship to be presented to the High School that has the most participation in the High School Hornet division for the year in the amount of $1,000.  The scholarship has been created in honor of Phil Sargent, respected coach, teacher and administrator at Macon and Meridian Schools.  Phil was a vital part of the Macon community and influential in the success of his son, respected promoter Bob Sargent.

We have many seats still available in our reserved seat section and are for purchase for $75.  Fans may purchase a seat in the section by calling Macon Speedway at 217-764-3000. 

Macon Speedway races every Saturday Night gates will open at 5:00 and racing will start at 7:00.  Adults are $10 and kids 12 and under get in for free with a paying adult.
