EAST MOLINE (June 20) - Although the weatherman could talk about nothing but rain and thunderstorms Sunday the Racing action at Quad City Speedway went off without a hitch. In four divisions the winners were repeaters, but in one division it was a new face in victory lane for this season. After some good qualifying races in all divisions the first feature to hit the track was the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature which went with only one caution and that was fefore a lap was scored. Front row starter, Ron Marks Jr snatched the lead right off the bat, with fifth place starter Cary Brown in hot pursuit. After being involved in that only caution, Matt Werner had worked his way back up to third by lap ten. Marks went on for his third victory of the season, as Brown and Werner battled the last five laps, often side by side. On the last lap, coming off turn four Werner edged out Brown to take second. Brown was third with Rick Schriner fourth and Rob Nylin fifth. Next up was the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature. Greg Durbin started on the outside of the front row and grabbed the early lead. After winning the heat race Hunter Wilson became the first casualty of the race as he ran into problems in turn three on the first lap. On the restart it was Durbin back out front with eighth place starter, Mark Vervynck in second and ninth place starter, Jake Waterman in third. On lap four Waterman went out front with Vervynck hard on his rear bumper. Vervynck might have been trying a little to hard as he brought out the caution on lap eleven. Waterman went on for his third win of the year with Greg Durbin moving back in to take second. Craig Crawford was third with Jerry Durbin fourth. Last place starter Jim Hickenbottom rounded out the top five. Third place starter, Doug Crampton took the early lead of the caution free twenty lap SNI of Geneseo A Modified feature on the first lap with second heat winner, Milo Veloz Jr taking over on lap four. Soon first heat winner Thad Wilson moved into second and tried putting some pressure on, But nobody was going to have anything for Veloz as he went on to take his first trip to victory lane of the season. Veloz became the sixth different winner in this division in six races. Wilson was second with Crampton holding on for third. Ninth place starter, John Bull was fourth with Ryan Dolan taking fifth on his first visit to the Quad City Speedway this year. The first
lap of the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model first heat had some problems as a
couple of cars got together on the taking of the green leaving Eric After winning the heat race Chad Tucker took the lead of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature on lap three. On lap four previous leader, Justin Veloz got into the wall in turn four. An the restart Chad Tucker went back out front with Dale Tucker right on his bumper. Soon Bryce Garnhart was giving Dale all he could handle as the two ran side by side. A little later Dale was forced to retire with mechanical woes. Chad went on to take his third straight feature win in a row with Bryce Garnhart second. Scott Powell was third followed by Josh Garnhart and Chance Huston, in that order.
