Mid-Season Champions Crowned at Quad City Speedway
by Ed Potter

EAST MOLINE, IL (July 11) - It was a great night for racing once again Sunday and once again the racing surface at Quad City Speedway was in perfect condition.  The track was in good enough shape it allowed two and three car wide racing, even in the qualifiers.  After some great qualifying it was time for the Pepsi Mid-Season Championships.  The Extreme Auto Glass Street Stocks were first to hit the track.  Rick Schriner drew lucky starting spot number one and led the first lap.  The caution then flew for a car spun in turn four.  On the restart Schriner went back out front but had first heat winner, Chris Lawrence running right up beside him going down the back chute.  Lawrence moved out front on lap three and was getting into lap traffic by lap eight.  The caution flew for a corner tire out on the racing surface at lap nine.  Lawrence went back out front on the restart, this time with sixth place starter, Matt Werner right on his tail.  On lap eleven Werner got by Lawrence and went on to take his fourth win of the year.  Lawrence was second with Schriner holding on for third.  Second heat winner and ninth place starter, Korey Peterson was fourth with Ron Marks Jr fifth.

Next up was the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature and pole sitter, Jerry Durbin used his starting polsition to it’s full advantage as he took the lead on the drop of the green and never looked back to lead flag to flag for his first win of the year.  This race also went flag to flag without a single caution.  Soon after the drop of the green there were four cars battling for the second place spot.  Mark Vervynck ended up taking the spot.. First heat winner, Andrew Burk was third with second heat winner, Jake Waterman fourth.  Craig Crawford was a strong fifth.

Jason Pershey jumped out front of the SNI of Geneseo A Modified feture with second heat winner, Milo Veloz Jr and first heat winner, John Bull in tow.  On a fourth lap restart it was Pershey still out front with Veloz challenging this time, and Bull and Donovan Lodge battling for third side by side.  A seventh lap caution saw Veloz take over the lead going down the back stretch on the restart.  Veloz went on for his third vicory in a many race nights at Quad City Speedway.  Pershey held on for second with Lodge taking third.  Coing out of a four car battle for fourth the last five laps last place starter, Andy Warner took the spot over Doug Crampton’s fifth.

First heat winner, Jeremy Gustaf took the early lead of the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature with Mike Garland right on his tail chasing him.  On lap three Garland went to the point and the caution flew.  On the restart Garland went back out front with a three car wide fight behind him for second.  Soon it was five cars battling for the spot.  The caution flew again at lap ten for debris.  Garland still led on the restart but by the time the cars got to turn four tenth place starter, Ray Guss Jr moved out front.  On a thirteenth lap restart Mike Murphy Jr was trying to put the pressure on Guss.  Soon second heat winner, Todd Malmstrom was challenging Murphy.  Guss went on for his fifth trip to the Quad City Speedway victory lane this year.  Murphy was second with Malmstrom third.  Nate Beuseling was fourth with eleventh place starter, Cory Goldbeck fifth.

The first lap of the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature had three different leaders by the time it was scored.  Mike Wisdom took the lead on the drop of the green and led through turns one and two with Gabe Harrison taking over going down the back stretch.  By the time they got around to turn four second heat winner, Chad Tucker had taken over the point.  With five cautions and time pressuring the race was over at the end of ten laps.  Drivers had been warned with another caution the race would be over and this happened as a car coasted to a halt in the back stretch.  Chad Tucker took his fourth win of the season with Harrison a close second.  Brandon Dahl came from seventh to take third.  Gabe Schrader was fourth with tenth place starter, Dale Tucker founding out the top five.  Justin Veloz took the other heat win.
