EAST MOLINE (July 22) - The SNI of Geneseo/Sexton Ford Rock Island County Fair races were held Thursday at Quad City Speedway. The IMCA Late Model feature was set to pay two thousand dollars to win with the Street Stock feature paying four hundred dollars to the winner. Before the races started the owner of Rock River Arms came to the judges stand and added another thousand for the Late Model winner. The owner of Silvis Quick Change then acme down and added three hundred dollars for the Street Stock winner. Aaron Burroughs jumped into the lead of the Street Stock feature with Matt Werner taking over on a sixth lap restart. Only one more caution fell, but Werner wasn’t slowing down. Tenth place starter, Tony VonDresky battled through the field and moved into second with four laps to go of the twenty lapper. Burroughs held on for third with Rick Schriner fourth and Ron Marks Jr fifth. Nate Beuseling charged out front of the IMCA Late Model feature and soon had Terry Neal pressuring him. For the first twenty-three laps of this forty lapper, these two ran side by side with one leading one lap and the other the next. As these two battled out front ninth place starter, Ray Guss Jr was working his way up through the field. As lap traffic became involved Neal, Beuseling and another car piled in turn four sending all three to the rear of the field. On the restart Guss went out front and never looked back to take the win. Eric Gustaf was a strong second with Brian Meiners a strong third. Things were a little tighter from there on back with Shawn Mulvany fourth and Matt Ryan fifth. During intermission Hershel Roberts was presented a plaque honoring his forty years of involvement at the speedway. He was also given a key to the city by the mayor of East Moline.
