EAST MOLINE, ILL (August 29) - Ray Guss Jr. had what most race car drivers would call a super weekend. Even though he didn’t win Friday his finishing position was good enough to give him the track title at Davenport Speedway. Then Saturday he took a convincing win and the track title at Jackson County Speedway. Sunday he led the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature flag to flag to take the win and his third track title of the weekend at Quad City Speedway. Guss took the lead on the drop of the green and led all the way to the checkered flag. Soon the racing was three wide behind him for second spot. By the mid-race point it was Rob Toland and thirteenth place starter, Mike Murphy Jr battling for the position. With just a few laps to go Murphy got a little to high and brushed the wall in turn two forcing him to drop in behind Toland. At the checkers it was Toland second, Murphy third, Matt Ryan fourth and Mike Garland fifth. John Bull led the first lap of the SNI of Geneseo A Modified feature with Milo Veloz Jr right on his tail. On lap two Veloz took over the point and Bull and Doug Crampton battled for second. These three circled the track circuit after circuit. Bull got up beside Crampton a few times, but couldn’t get by and Crampton occasionally got beside Veloz but couldn’t close the deal. Veloz took the win with Crampton second and Bull third. Twelfth place starter Shaune Lewis was fourth with Jerry Bailey Jr Fifth. Jake Waterman led the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature flag to flag to take the win with Greg Durbin chasing him all the way, but Durbin had to settle for second. Twelfth place starter, Matt Stein was third with tenth place starter, Mike Fluegel taking fourth over Craig Crawford’s fifth. The Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature had a little trouble getting by the tenth lap as the cautioin flew three times between laps eight and ten. Matt Werner took the lead on the drop of the green and even the cautions wasn’t going to slow him down. The top four spots didn’t change the entire race as Werner took the victory with Chris Lawrence second, Ron Marks Jr third and Rick Schriner fourth. Aaron Burroughs came from fourteenth to found out the top five. Chad Tucker led the Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature flag to flag for the win. Early in the race he had to hold off the challenges of Justin Veloz and later it was twelfth place starter, Todd Sibley trying to get him. Sibley ended up taking second with tenth place starter, Aaron Hitt third. Veloz held on for fourth with Brandon Dahl fifth.
