EAST MOLINE, IL (July 11, 2011) - Sunday was Leisure Time Billiards Mid Season Championship night at Quad City Speedway. After some side by side competition in the qualifiers the Verplaetse Excavating IMCA Modified feature was first to hit the track. Using his pole starting spot, Mark Vervynck jumped out front. After a couple of early restarts it was still Vervynck out front now with Greg Durbin right there to challenge. On lap ten Durbin got around Vervynck and continued on through the checkers for his first trip to victory circle this season. Vervynck held on for second with Thad Wilson third after being involved in one of those early cautions. Eric Barnes took fourth with Jerry Durbin fifth. Things got off to a rough start for the Extreme Auto Glass Street Stock feature as before a lap was scored six cars piled up coming off turn four onto the font chute coming for the green. When the track was cleared and the race started it was Rob Nylin out in front. A third lap restart had RJ Gonzales go out front, but a thirteenth lap restart saw Cary Brown take over the point. Brown went on for his second win in as many weeks. It appeared Chris Lawrence was second but his car was found illegal in post race inspection earning him a disqualification, letting Nylin hold on for second with Emily Gade third. Thirteenth place starter, Jerame Mowery was fourth with seventeenth starter, Justin Veloz rounding out the top five. Donovan Lodge took the early lead of the Affordable Parking Lot A Modified feature and was soon feeling the pressure of Jason Pershy. On lap fifteen Pershy worked his way out front bringing Ryan Dolan with him. Dolan went to the point on lap eighteen and went on for his second win this season. Pershy held on for second as Lodge held on to third. Shaune Lewis was fourth over John Bull’s fifth. Mike Zemo Jr not only got his first ever Late Model victory, but he did it in style as he led the Sexton Ford IMCA Late Model feature flag to flag to earn it even with a caution flag with four laps to go tightening the field up. Nothing was slowing Zemo down as he went on for the victory holding off second place finisher, Mike Cothron. Ninth place starter, Matt Ryan took third. Shawn Mulvany was fourth with last place starter Ray Guss Jr fifth. The Aaron’s Affordable Towing 4 Cylinder feature ran caution free with Aaron Hitt taking the lead on the drop of the green. At the mid race point Jake Ellithorpe took over the point and went on for his second win of the season. Hitt held on for second with Mike Wisdom taking third. Wade Dahl was fourth with Rob Brasher rounding out the top five.
