Car show, practice kick off 2006 season at
Independence Motor Speedway
by Ryan Clark
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 10, 2006) - Race fans of Independence
Motor Speedway got a sneak peek at the competition during the annual car show
and practice on Saturday, April 8. The event, which was held for the second
straight year at Pinicon Ford and Independence Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge on 1st St. in
Independence, hosted the car show prior to a three-hour practice session at the
speedway.
A panel of judges voted for the best appearing cars in each of the five weekly
divisions, while the public got the chance to vote for the overall best of show.
Catching the judges' eyes and taking home the hardware in each division were the
B modified of Travis Brown, the I.M.C.A. hobby stock of Chris Luloff, the
I.M.C.A. stock car of Nick Wroten and the I.M.C.A. modified of Troy Cordes.
I.M.C.A. late model rookie Brian Lillie took home the trophy for the best
appearing I.M.C.A. late model.
Over 250 of those in attendance cast their ballots for the best of show.
Wroten's I.M.C.A. stock car collected that prize, earning a final tally of 90
votes.
The festivities then moved to the 3/8-mile Independence Motor Speedway for the
annual practice. Over 50 cars were on-hand to fine-tune their machines for the
April 22 season opener. The gates will open at 4 p.m. for weekly Saturday racing
with hot laps scheduled for 6 and the first green flag set to fall at 6:30.
