Bolin caps memorable weekend with I.M.C.A. modified win at
Independence Motor Speedway
By Ryan Clark
INDEPENDENCE, Ia (May 27, 2006) One night after earning his first career
feature win at Marshalltown Speedway, I.M.C.A. modified driver Adam Bolin wasted
little time making his second trip to the winners circle. Bolin completed the
weekend sweep by also taking the checkers at Independence Motor Speedway.
A caution following the first lap of the 20-lapper sidelined early leader Adam
Johnson. Bolin, who started inside the third row, powered into second prior to
the yellow and inherited the lead for the ensuing restart.
When racing resumed, Bolin charged away from the field with Troy Cordes and
Johnathan Thimmesch running second and third. Cordes challenged Bolin early, but
fell back on the fourth lap leaving Bolin with a sizeable lead.
As Bolin paced the field, Scott Hogan, Mike Gill and Jerry Luloff battled behind
him. Running the high side, Hogan settled into second on the 14th circuit, and
attempted to run down the leader. His efforts came up short at the stripe as
Bolin drove to the win. Hogan ran second and points leader Jerry Luloff crossed
the line in third after starting 12th. It was Luloffs fourth top-three finish
in as many weeks.
Shane Manson took the early lead in the 20-lap I.M.C.A. stock car feature.
Manson led the 19-car field until Justin Temeyer drove the high side into the
lead on the fifth lap. Jarod Weepie followed Temeyer to the front, settling into
second just two laps later.
With Temeyer running the high side and Weepie in the low groove, the two engaged
in a side-by-side battle for the lead throughout much of the race. As they led,
Sean Johnson powered his way through the field running the high side. He caught
the leaders on the 12th lap and made it a three-wide battle for the top spot
when the caution flag was thrown.
On the restart, Temeyer again went to work on the high side with Weepie down low
and Johnson looking for room to run in third. Weepie edged ahead as the white
flag was thrown as he drove to his second win of the season. Temeyer and Johnson
rounded out the top three.
A pair of horrifying accidents slowed the start of the I.M.C.A. hobby stock
feature. A second restart prior to the completion of the first lap saw
pole-sitter Kevin Robinson and Patrick Stansbery roll their machines on the
front straightaway. Both drivers walked away uninjured, however nearly half of
the field was sidelined due to the pile-up.
When the race resumed, Brandon Davis took the lead from Dave Wheeler who
restarted on the pole. Davis was chased to the front by points leader Rod
Grother. The two battled side-by-side for the lead until Davis took the lead for
good near the midway point of the event.
Davis drove to victory, the first of his career, with Rod Grother and Travis
Michels chasing him to the checkers.
Travis Brown led the first lap of the 15-lap B modified feature. Joe Docekal
took charge on the second lap and pulled away from the field to score his first
win of the season in the caution-free event. Tony Olson and Brian Kunkle worked
their way through the field to take second and third, respectively.
Greg Kastli picked up his first win of the season in the I.M.C.A. late model
division. Kastli took the lead on the first lap and never looked back as he led
the entirety of the 25-lap event which ran without a caution. Curt Martin
masterfully weaved his way through traffic from a sixth row start to collect
runner-up honors. Dean Wagner, who started alongside Martin in row six, crossed
the line third.
