Mother Nature claims third straight to close out June at
Independence Motor Speedway
by Ryan Clark
INDEPENDENCE, IA (June 24, 2006) - For the third consecutive week the racing
program at Independence Motor Speedway fell to the wrath of Mother Nature. The
June 24 Budweiser Mid-Season Championships have been rescheduled for next week.
The rains came just after the ninth of 21 qualifying events was completed.
Racing resumed following a two-hour rain delay, however a second shower swept
through the area at 9:30. The show was eventually canceled following the second
stoppage.
Since not all of the qualifiers were completed, the entire show was considered a
loss. Mid-Season Championships have been rescheduled for next Saturday, July 1,
when a complete program will be run. Ticket stubs and pit passes from this
week's rainout will be accepted as rain checks for next week's event. Those not
presenting their grandstand ticket stub or pit pass armband will be required to
purchase a new ticket.
On Monday, July 3, the Deery Brothers Summer Series for I.M.C.A. Late Models
will make its annual stop at the speedway. Joining the late models for the
holiday show will be modifieds, stock cars and B modifieds. Those three
divisions will run regular track rules, however they will not be sanctioned.
Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps scheduled for 6 and the first green
flag to wave at 6:30.
