Cordes & Temeyer Impressive at BCS
VINTON, Iowa (June 10) - Troy Cordes struggled early in the season, but made a
strong showing Sunday night at BCS in taking the hard fought win in the IMCA
modified division. Shawn Fisher looked to be on pace to win his second feature
in as many weeks taking the lead on lap two from Robbie Schmuecker. Cordes
started in the ninth position and worked his way to third on lap seven. Cordes
made his move to the second spot on lap ten and set up a battle for the lead
with Fisher for the next four laps before taking the lead on lap fourteen.
Cordes held off JD Auringer, who took second place from Fisher on lap sixteen.
Fisher finished third.
Fantastic finishes are becoming an every week occurrence in the IMCA stock
car division. This week, Damon Murty and Justin Temeyer took center stage in an
epic battle that saw Murty take an early advantage in the feature event. Temeyer
began to place pressure on Murty on lap six and took advantage of a Murty miscue
on lap nine to take the lead. Temeyer raced flawlessly the remaining laps to
hold off the late race charges of Murty to take the win. Brett Mather finished
third.
A wild close to the IMCA sport mod feature saw Danny Dvorak survive with the
feature win after the top three cars of Shane Ebaugh, Dan Higdon, and Tony Olson
piled up on the front stretch racing for the same piece of real estate. With
those cars out, Dvorak inherited the lead and eventual win. Doug Smith finished
second ahead of Kyle Bentley.
Rod Grother took the lead on lap six from Nathan Sweerin and held off the advances of Chris Luloff the next three laps before Luloff took the lead on lap nine. A flat tire would sideline the Grother machine and give the second position to Brad Forbes who chased Luloff to the checkers for the remaining six laps. Scotty Pippert finished third.
Brad Moorman captured the top honor in the IMCA sport compact feature. Randy
Van De Vegte chased him to the checkers ahead of Jena Barthelmes.
Next week is the annual Hogan Memorial Mid-Season Championships that features an
additional $3000 going into the IMCA modified feature purse.
