Cordes Impressive in BCS Win

VINTON, IA (July 22) - Shawn Fisher had the field covered Sunday night at the Benton County Speedway leading by over a straightaway until he lost a drive shaft on his machine on lap ten. With the caution bunching the field, Troy Cordes took over the point being pressured by JD Auringer. Cordes held off the challenges of Auringer for the final ten laps to secure the win – his second of the weekend. Auringer followed to a second place finish ahead of Patrick Flannagan.

In the IMCA Stock Car feature, Norman Chesmore inherited the lead on lap fourteen when race leader Brian Irvine and Curtis Roster got together sending both machines to the tail. Chesmore assumed the top position and held off Jason DeShaw for the win. Paul Shepherd finished third.

Kyle Bentley methodically worked his way through the IMCA Sport Mod field from his eleventh starting position, taking the lead on lap twelve. A lap thirteen caution bunched up the field. Bentley held off the competition when racing resumed to score the feature win ahead of Kyle Olson and Tony Olson.

A pair of wild flips marred the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Greg Sweerin took a nasty ride on the first lap barrel rolling his machine in turn three and collecting a few participants as well. When racing resumed, Nathan Ballard assumed the lead and held the point until lap eight when Josh Irvine took the lead. A lap eleven caution flew for point leader, Brad Forbes, who also rolled his machine. When racing resumed, Irvine held off the challenged of Ballard to take the win. Scotty Pippert finished third.

Jena Barthelmes continues her winning ways and drive for a national championship in the IMCA Sport Compact division. Taking the lead on lap one, Barthelmes never looked back in taking yet another win. Gary Peiffer finished second ahead of Jeremy Heim.

Kaiser and Schmuecker took the lead on lap three of the Cruiser feature and powered away for the win.

This week is the 2007 Benton County Fair. Along with the regular weekly racing program on Sunday, July 29, an extra night of racing has been added for Thursday, July 25.

All weekly divisions will be competing for track points during the special Thursday show. In addition, 305 sprints are scheduled to compete. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 and racing at 7.
