Deery Series at Des Moines for Aug. 13 Iowa State Fair show
DES MOINES, Iowa (Aug. 9) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series travels to Des
Moines next Monday, Aug. 13, for the traditional state fair show.
First place in the IMCA Sunoco Late Model main event will pay $2,000. Pit gates
at the Iowa State Fair grounds Speedway open at 3 p.m., with hot laps at 5:30
p.m. and racing to follow.
Jeremy Grady of Story City, a three-time winner on the tour thus far, tops the
standings heading to Des Moines with a 14 point edge over Marshalltown’s Darrel
DeFrance.
Boone McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Terry Neal of Ely, who also has three wins to
his credit this season, and Andy Nezworski of Buffalo continue to round out the
top five.
Luke Goedert of Holy Cross is seventh, and 22 points ahead of Clear Lake’s
Charlie McKenna in the battle for rookie of the year honors.
Defending champion Jeff Aikey of Waterloo owns four of his series career leading
48 feature wins at Des Moines. DeFrance, the only driver with perfect attendance
through the tour’s 311-race history, has won there twice.
One-time winners at Des Moines include Bob Hill of Story City, Rollie Frink of
Davenport, Mike Smith of Jewell, Gary Webb of Blue Grass, Tom Hearst of Wilton,
Joe Kosiski of Omaha, Neb., hometown driver Todd Cooney, Brian Harris of Walcott
and, most recently, Bettendorf’s
Rob Toland.
