by: Bill Martin
BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 25) – A silver anniversary celebration is in the works for the
IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals at Boone Speedway.
The 25th annual event opens on Monday, Sept. 3, and runs through Saturday, Sept.
8. All 16 drivers who have won Modified titles at Super Nationals since 1983
have been invited to Boone as special guests and will be recognized during
pre-race ceremonies leading off the final day’s program.
Special awards will be given to five-time winner and 16-time Modified feature
qualifier John Logue of Boone, and to Rex Merritt of Billings, Mo., who has
competed at every Super Nationals since 1986.
“Super Nationals has come a long way since its first year, when the total car
count was all of 44 Modifieds,” IMCA President Kathy Root said. “The anniversary
event is the perfect occasion to honor the drivers who have helped make Super
Nationals the premier race for Modifieds in the country.”
Champions will be crowned in six divisions, beginning Monday when the Deery
Brothers Summer Series for Late Models heads the Labor Day program. The Jackpot
Junction Sprint Car Tour gets top billing on the Tuesday card. Saturday’s show
boasts features for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks, Stock
Cars and Modifieds.
