Earnhardt Jr to Test Wednesday in Iowa
NEWTON, IA (Aug 27) – NASCAR's top drivers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr, and
Carl Edwards, who won Saturday's NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway, are
scheduled to test at Iowa's Speedway's "Test Fest" this week in Newton, Iowa.
Teams testing Tuesday and Wednesday, August 28 and 29, on the 7/8 mile oval
track include Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI), Roush Fenway Racing, and RWI,
Inc., the team owned by Rusty Wallace, track designer and former NASCAR
champion, now a commentator for ABC/ESPN television. Steven Wallace, competing
in Busch Series races this year is also scheduled to test in Iowa, along with
Chase Austin, a 17-year-old developmental driver for RWI, Inc.
Dale Earnhardt Jr, originally scheduled to appear in Iowa for two days, is now
scheduled to test one day only – Wednesday, August 29 – as a result of schedule
changes caused by rain delays at Michigan International Speedway last week. The
DEI team will be represented by drivers Paul Menard, scheduled to test Tuesday.
Earnhardt, Menard, and Martin Truex Jr, are scheduled to test Wednesday. Jeff
Earnhardt, the grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr, is also scheduled to test
in Iowa.
Carl Edwards, with the biggest victory of his racing career last weekend in
Bristol, Tennessee, where he clinched a berth in the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL
Cup, and Jamie McMurray, driving for Roush Fenway Racing, are also scheduled to
test at Iowa Speedway.
The NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams and drivers leave Iowa heading west for
racing action next weekend under the lights at the California Speedway. The
Sharp Aquos 500 is slated for Sunday, September 2 at 7:30 pm (EST).
Because of the DEI schedule change all tickets purchased for testing will be
honored either test day. Fans are encouraged to contact the Iowa Speedway Box
Office for more information regarding scheduling and ticket purchases
641-791-8100. Tickets may also be purchased each day at the gate.
The 2-day "Test Fest" offers fans a variety of activities for families and
individuals. Food, beverages, music, and door prizes will be part of the
festivities…and the first 500 people through the gate each day will receive free
souvenirs.
